high. The visitors who do arrive are likely to be high. The visitors who do arrive are likely from

the allocentric end of the typology scale and are likely to make use of local infrastructure as few

dedicated tourist facilities will exist.

2. Involvement

A small increase in annual visitor numbers will have occurred and, as a consequence, some tourism

resources such as guest houses and restaurant will have been developed. A tourist season may start to

merge and the local government may be encouraged to provide supporting infrastructure.

3. Development

The destination is likely to be attracting the mid-centric tourists.

4. Consolidation

The number of tourist visiting each year is still growing but now at a slower rate. International chains and

franchise are present, which may reduce the power of the local population to control the style and nature

of tourism development.

5. Stagnation

At this stage visitors’ numbers are no longer increasing, being maintained by repeat visits from its

psychometric client based social and environmental problems may be occurring and tourist resources may

be rather dilapidated.

6. Decline
Without new investment the destination is likely to experience a decline in visitor numbers and tourist

facilities may be unable to maintain economic viability.

7 Rejuvenation

To avoid decline, it is necessary to reinvigorate the destination often through investment. This may be

provided by local government, desiring to maintain jobs and the social well-being of the local community.

This can be a mean of explaining how many tourism destinations move through a cycle beginning with

(almost) nil tourism to massive development and boom time and often times, to eventual stagnation and

decline.

other effects that affect destination which is very important. Also choice of destination is important to
