Welcome to another fun and exciting adventure together. Come and join me as we
explore another lesson for the 4th week of Quarter 2 in English 7. I am Teacher Krystle
Radio Teacher: Confused and sometimes worried when answering your modules? No worries
because today we are going to master the skill of researching information using print and non-print
sources.
Radio Teacher: All right! Are you now ready to learn? I hope you are. I want you to please
prepare yourself and sit in a comfortable place so that you can concentrate while listening.
So, what are the sources that you use when you need to get an important information? I want
you to list them down on your notebook right now. For example, newspaper. You can write as
many as you can. You have 10 seconds to do this task. Time starts now.
MSC : (BED) THEME MUSIC UP THEN FADE UNDER
So, how was your writing task? What you have listed are actually examples of media. What is
media? Media plays a fundamental role in the modern society. Media refers to various means of
communication that provides us with important information and knowledge. It can be broken
Based on the Oxford Reference, print media is defined as any written or pictorial form of
which multiple copies can be made through automated processes. This is the oldest type of
media that we are still using now. Examples of print media are newspapers, books, journals,
magazines, and reports. I believe you are all familiar with all those mentioned. If not, you can try
On the other hand, non-print media is a means of informing people without using paper or print.
This type has become very common to all people both as a tool in the educational process and
as a means of spreading information all throughout the world. Examples are TV, radio, internet,
mobile devices, social media, website, video and podcast. For those who do not know, a podcast
is a piece of this audio-like story, interview, or documentary. It can be downloaded from the
internet. Created on 2014, podcasting has become famous for making people enjoy listening
Radio Teacher: How are you feeling right now? Are you still eager to learn? Shall we continue?
So, our topic for today is all about researching information. In doing research, we are most likely
to encounter different types of sources. The most common types of sources are the primary
sources and secondary sources. Take note, it is important to understand these types of sources
before searching for information. A primary source provides direct or first-hand evidence about
an event, object, person, or work of art. Primary sources provide the original materials on which
other research is based and enable students and other researchers to get as close as possible
to what actually happened during a particular event or time. Examples of this source are
anything that describes, interprets, evaluates, or analyzes information out from the original
source. Some examples of this are books, articles, reviews, and essays.
So let’s say the item is the State of the Nation Address (SONA) of President Rodrigo Duterte, is
it Primary or Secondary?
You are correct! It is an example of a primary source.
How about the English 7 Textbook?
Awesome, you got it right! An English 7 Textbook is an example of secondary source.
MSC : (BED) THEME MUSIC UP THEN FADE UNDER
Radio Teacher: That’s it! I hope you are learning. So before we move on with our discussion,
can someone tell me the two categories of media? You’re right! The two categories of media are
These are the primary sources and secondary sources. Great job learners!
Radio Teacher: This time, let’s talk about another important skill in doing research which is
asking questions.
Why? Why? Why? For many children, that is their favorite question: “Why?” Why is the sky blue?
Why do I have to go to bed? Well, if you want to learn English try to think like a child again and
be as curious as possible. Questioning everything will help you learn a lot more. As you can
see, you’ll need to know how to ask questions in English to be curious. So, how to form questions
Today, I will give you a simple formula that works for almost any question with almost any verb.
The formula is an acronym called QWASM. That’s Q.W.A.S.M. It stands for Question Word,
Auxiliary, Subject, Main verb. For example, if you want to ask question in the present simple you
might want to ask, “Where do you live?” WHERE is the Question Word, DO is the Auxiliary, YOU
is the Subject and LIVE is the Main verb. Another example is, “What does she think?” WHAT is
the Question Word, DOES is the Auxiliary, SHE is the Subject and THINK is the Main verb.
Easy, isn’t it? However, there are some exceptions to this rule. Like if you want to ask a yes or
no question, then you just have to remove the Question Word but you can still keep the second
half of the acronym which is the A.S.M. or the Auxiliary, Subject, Main verb. For example, the
question could be “Do you like chocolate?” or “Are they studying English?” All these questions
So, did you get that? Wow! You surely do have a lot of learning today! Now, you have everything
you need to make perfect questions in English. All you need to do is just practice. So, I have a
Radio Teacher: Hurray! You have just finished learning on how to construct questions. Well, I
hope you have understood the lesson so far. Now that you have discovered print and non-print
media, you are now ready to research information about a certain topic. This time, open your
module and do the Assessment on page 12. Write your answers on your notebook.
Radio Teacher: Are you done? Wow, all did great! I’m excited to check your answers soon. Two
shoulder taps on the left, two shoulder taps on the right and high five! Today we learned about
researching information using print and non-print sources. Yes, we all did! Believe and together
we can. This has been another day of thinking, doing and learning. I hope you learned something.
This is Teacher Krystle, your Teacher-on Air! Have a good day everyone!
