5 EASY WAYS TO DRAW A GALAXY

/ Cards, Cra!s/DIY, Stars or Space / Comments O"

Galaxies are very trendy in the creative world right now and
drawing a galaxy is much easier than you think. You can use
di"erent mediums that you are most comfortable with such
as watercolor, acrylic paint, inks, and even markers!

Some a"iliate links used on items I truly recommend. See

disclosure here.

Here are 5 Easy Ways to Draw A Galaxy. If you are a visual

learning, there is a step by step process video below as well
as a list of supplies used. I’m definitely not a professional
artist, but with the steps and supplies below, anyone can
draw a galaxy!

5 Easy Ways To Draw A Galaxy

GALAXY BASICS
I used similar color themes in all of the projects below so it
would be easier to compare. I laid down shades of blues and
purples. Then once it was dry, I added in black to cover most
(but not all of the galaxy).

GALAXY TECHNIQUES
1. Watercolor
One of the most popular ways to draw a galaxy is through
watercolor. I used this watercolor set to add shades of blue
and purples, let it dry, then I covered it up with black
watercolor.

2. Distress Ink Watercolor

This is a great variation on watercoloring. I use these distress
inks a lot for ink blending, and the distress inks also work
great for watercolor. I smoosh the ink pad down on my cra!
mat, add some water with these water brushes, and then
painted.

3. Ink Blending
If you’re going to blend ink to create a galaxy, I highly
recommend using these Distress Oxide inks. Ink blending is
a popular technique among paper cra!ers. You will
definitely get an arm workout.

4. Acrylic Paint
Another way to paint a galaxy is using acrylic paint. You can
buy acrylic paint anywhere and some brands are really
a"ordable. I bought this cheap set of acrylic paint because I
don’t use acrylics very o!en (but I may have to start!). I used
a sponging technique to apply the paint with these foam
brushes.

5. Marker Ink Smooshing

Scribble, spritz, smoosh. First you scribble your markers on a
piece of plastic or transparency. Then you use your mini
spray bottle to spritz some water on the plastic. Then you
smoosh the plastic down on your paper. Repeat with
di"erent colors to add layers.

ADDING THE STARS TO

YOUR GALAXY
A!er you put down your layers, the next step is the fun part. I
place white and pearl watercolor paint on my acrylic block.
Then I flicked on the “stars”. I recommend practicing first on
scrap paper so you get the motion down first.
