STUDENT´S NAME:

LOGRO: Identify the appropriate meaning of the words in the dictionary according to the
contexts.

EXPLANATION TO THE TOPIC:

In English, as in any language, verbs play a very important role in the communication
process: they are responsible for expressing actions. There is an English verb that is
essential to communicate, and of course the most used of all those that exist. This is the
verb "to be."
Learning the verbs in another language, and especially the verb "to be" can be a difficult
task for children. Verbs are concepts that some may find difficult to grasp, but through
repetition, and using different materials and fun activities, learning them becomes easier,
and more fun too!
It is essential for the little ones to learn the different uses of the verb "to be", after all, it is
the most used for different purposes. What does the verb "to be" mean? It is one of the
main verbs in English. The meaning in Spanish of the verb to be is "to be" or "to be" in
most cases, and the use of one or the other in this language will depend on what you want
to communicate. However, in other situations, such as when talking about age, the verb to
be will have a different meaning in Spanish than its use in English. For example, if a
person says "I am Jaime", it is understood by the context that the verb to be there is
equivalent to the verb "I am", since the person is talking about his name when saying "I am
Jaime". However, if a person says "I am waiting," it makes sense for "am" to take the verb
"to be" as meaning, since "waiting" means "waiting," so that the person would be saying "I
am waiting."
Where is the verb "to be" used?
While the verb to be has mainly two particular meanings in Spanish, it has some very well-
defined uses in English that don't always fit these meanings.
The uses of the verb to be in English are the following: talk about nouns, for example what
a person is called; to express the age of someone or something (in this case, it does not
mean to be or to be); to speak express someone's nationality and to speak about a
person's profession.
