Zoe Top Pattern
Zoe Top – This elegant, simple top is designed
especially for sheer georgette and chiffon
fabrics. The loose-fitting style features
three quarter length magyar sleeves and a wide
neckline with self binding. French seams are
recommended and the top is finished with
narrow double rolled hems. Zoe is an ideal
project for advanced beginners wanting to
venture into sewing with sheers.

Finished length of Zoe Top: (from centre back
neckline) 28” or 71cm. Note: you can lengthen
or shorten this top at the hem.
Sleeve length: (from neckline to sleeve hem)
28.5” or 72cm
Seam Allowance: seam allowances are included
and are in imperial (inches) not metric
(centimetres). Side/shoulder seams are ½”
except for binding seams which are ¼”.
Sewing level: suitable for advanced beginners,
intermediate and advanced sewers.
Zoe Top Pattern - Sewing Instructions
Please read instructions thoroughly before
cutting and sewing.

Step 1: Cut out tearaway Vilene shields for
front and back necklines using the template
provided on your pattern. Sew shields (approx
1/8”) to front and back neckline on wrong
side of fabric, close to the edge and inside
the neckline seam allowance. This secures the
neckline and prevents it from stretching.
Step 2: Ok, now we’re going to start on our
French seams. With wrong sides together, pin
back and front shoulder seams and overlock
3/8" seam allowance

Note: If you don't have an overlocker, you
can sew ¼” seam allowance, then trim back
seam by approx 1/8” to remove any loose
threads.
Step 3: With right sides together, press seam
edge of front and back shoulder/upper sleeve
edge gently…

…then pin in place and sew ¼” seam allowance.
Now you should have a lovely French seam
along your shoulder.

Step 4: With wrong sides together, press neck
bias binding piece in half lengthways taking
care not to stretch when pressing. Note: The
bias binding is cut longer. You will need to
check/measure binding around the neck before
cutting off any excess.
Step 5 - Binding the neckline: Check/measure
that your bias binding is the right length
for your neckline and then cut correct length
and join ends together. Pin raw edge of
folded neck binding to right side of neckline
edge, slightly stretching the bias binding
evenly and sew ¼” seam.
Make sure that the joined seam of binding is
aligned with one neck shoulder seam.
Step 6: Tear away Vilene shields around
neckline. Turn binding over the neck edge
seam and baste (clearly away from neck seam)
in place so that the binding covers the seam
edge on the inside.

From the right side, stitch in the ditch
along the neck seam making sure that inside
bind edge is caught by the stitching. Remove
basting stitches.

Step 7: With wrong sides together, pin back
and front side/under sleeve seams and
overlock 3/8" seam allowance (as per Step
2) Note: If you don't have an overlocker you
can sew ¼” seam allowance, then trim back
seam by approx 1/8" to remove any loose stray
threads.
Step 8: With right sides together, press
gently and pin back and front side seams and
sew ¼” seam allowance. You should have a
lovely french seam along your side/under
sleeve seams.
Step 9 - Hemming the sleeves and top:
The hems on the sleeves and top have a double
turned 1/8" hem. Firstly turn back the hem
edges 1/8" towards the wrong side and stitch
in place.

Next, turn hem another 1/8" towards wrong
side and stitch in place on top of previous
stitch. Press.
Note: You will only see one row of stitching
on right side of garment.
