Some Hollywood stars admit to being good at playing poker than acting. Come to think of it,
there are quite a lot of similarities between poker stars and Hollywood stars. They both appear to
entertain people as a means of living. Both require unique talents and individuality to succeed.
Plus it generates lots of money.

Maybe that’s why more celebrities are hitting Casino tables. Most of them actually admit to
making Poker as their offset hobby. Others make it a part-time career. However, some step a
little further and replace their Hollywood career for professional poker. Here are some famous
celebrities who joined the poker community to win big.

Ben Affleck
The Oscar winning actor is taking the poker passion to the next level. He started his professional
poker career by winning in the California State Poker Championship in 2004. He won the huge
amount of $365,000 and the coveted seat in the Bellagio/WPT championship later that year. He
just proved that joining the poker community isn’t bad at all.

Jennifer Tilly
She’s another Hollywood actor who decided to trade acting for a professional poker career. She’s
done movies such as The Fabulous Baker Boys, Bullets Over Broadway and Liar Liar. She was a
professional player until December 2009. In her years as professional, she won a 2005 WSOP
golden bracelet and the WPT Ladies Invitational Tournament in that same year.

James Woods
He’s a two-time Academy Award nominee, Emmy Award and Golden Globe winner who show a
continuing interest for the game. Although he has not won any tournament, he was spotted
playing many times at the WPT and WSOP events. He also joined some Celebrity Poker
Programs with some famous colleagues in the entertainment industry.

Mimi Rogers
Who would have thought that this true Hollywood star is a poker professional? She’s one of
Hollywood’s biggest poker names. Mimi’s passion for poker ignited when she was a teenager.
The passion only turned a competitive play in 2003. Her major poker tournament record includes
participation in the WPT Open Event at the Bay 101 Shooting Stars where she finished in 27 th
place. She also participated in $1000 Ladies No-Limit Hold’em event where she finished in 33 rd
place.

Jason Alexander
He’s known as Seinfeld the funny guy. He’s a dedicated poker player with 3 appearances in the
WSOP main event. He also has an exclusive sponsorship agreement with Poker Stars poker
room. With strong passion for the game, Alexander is definitely here to stay.

Shannon Elizabeth
This Hollywood star is more than just a pretty face. She’s one of Hollywood’s passionate poker
players. She often visits Las Vegas several times a month to play with big poker names. She
played few times in the main event of the WSOP with limited access. In 2006 she finished first
and took home $55,000 in a Caesars Palace Hotel tournament beating 83 celebrities and poker
professionals.

Toby Maguire
Best known for his role as Spiderman, he was seen playing poker with famous stars like
Leonardo de Caprio and Matt Damon. He had not joined any competitions but he has had
multiple cashes in the World Series of Poker. Rumor has it that his winnings almost exceed $10
million.

Cameron Diaz
Diaz was invited by Ellen DeGeneres to play NO-Limit Hold’em. She admitted to playing it only
during her free time and got obsessed by the game. She has been seen playing in a Casino but her
busy schedule has not enabled her to play that much.

Undeniably, poker is becoming a popular game that even celebrities can’t resist it. Obviously,
other Hollywood Stars have done it well. They may pick it first as a fun hobby but it can also
become a passion once they discover that they’re good at it. There are lots of Celebrity Poker
Programs that encouraged celebrities to play and some of them started that way. It’s great
because they have a good advantage pulling a good poker face.
