Stay at Home
by Lucila P. Macaraeg

It was Tuesday afternoon. We were already home after

the morning class. Mother said. “Classes will be
suspended starting tomorrow because of the Corona
Virus. “Mother explained to us what it is all about. “We
better stay at home and follow what the government
officials are telling us. This is for our safety,” father added.
He also told us who are only allowed to go out.
From then on, mother kept on reminding us to wash our
hands always, use sanitizer and never go out to play.
While at home, we made ourselves busy. I read a book
everyday. I sometimes play a game with my brother and
help mother in cleaning the house.
One time, while we were looking at the window, I saw
A man with a face mask walking around. “Why is he
outside, father? “I asked. “He is a front liner in our
barangay. He helps in the distribution of relief goods to
every family.” We saw that the man looked tired. “What
can we do to help him? “my brother asked.
“Wait,” mother said. “We have plenty of food here. We
can share him something.” Mother got an eco-bag and
put in it; an apple, an orange, an egg, a sandwich and
an iced coffee for his snacks. Father gave it to him and
we saw a smile on the man’s face.
At night, before we go to bed, we say a prayer to thank
God for all his blessings and for keeping us safe. My stay
at home taught me good things which I can share to my
classmates when we go back to school.
