Advanced Cue Ball Control

Self-Testing Program
These are sample pages from the book. Frankly, these are some of the
roughest and toughest set of table layouts that can help you know
what you have to work on.

Introduction
Are you good enough to be an “A” player? Want to know if your
shooting and positioning skills can compete against the top players?
The layouts in this book provide a series of common but difficult shots
that require excellent pocketing skills with strong cue ball positioning
abilities.
Successfully making both object balls in these layouts is proof positive
that you are ready to break into the upper ranks. You can hold your
own against the aristocracy of the pool playing world.
What if you are not yet ready? Periodically setting up and playing
these shots will be an excellent validation that you are improving over
time.
These are not drills or exercises to shoot over and over in order to
master or fine-tune one or more skills. These are reality-based tests of
your current competence. Many of these shots could be beyond your
present-day skills. Set those shots aside for three to six months. Mark
those pages or make a copy.
Study this material in two steps. In the comfort of your favorite easy-
chair or recliner, review each table layout and thoughtfully consider
your options. How would you play the shot? What would be the
minimum speed and spin to make the shot work? Are there other ways
to make the shot work? Make notes about your assumptions,
possibilities, and considerations.
To continue developing yourself as an Intelligent Shooter – you have
to get past the “fooling around” stage of your playing career and get
serious about becoming a competitive player. This book will put you on
that path.

Table Layouts
The information below explains the basic layouts provided in this book.
Making modifications: new table layouts can be created from
http://pool.bz/CueTable.php. (You may need to register.) You can
make changes to the layout or add balls and then print the page.

Cue Ball Positions

For each 1 ball position, three different cue ball locations are provided.
Pocket the 1 ball and then the 2 ball. Each of here are three cue ball
positions. The purpose is to pocket the 1 ball and then pocket the 2
ball.
Purpose: Pocket the 1 ball and then pocket the 2 ball. Reset up the
cue ball and 1 ball. Place the 2 ball on another of the indicated
locations and shoot again. Repeat the shot until you can pocket both
balls 3 out of 4 times.

Your Development Process

Include table layouts from this book into your practice time. Always
start practice sessions with warm-up shots and then whatever routines
you planned. Use the table layouts to determine improvements. Some
improvements can be observed on a week-by-week basis. Other
improvements will take more time and are only identified on a month-
by-month basis.
It is a good idea to sit down in your favorite chair and analyze each
table layout. Rate each shot according to your current abilities. Here is
an example rating scale. As you improve, you can change the shot

 4 – easy shots, well within your current skills. (Success rate: 4 or 5

out of 5 attempts.)

 3 – not too difficult, but also not consistent. (Success rate: 2 or 3

out of 5 attempts.)

 2 – pushing the edges of your skills. (Success rate: 1 or 2 out of 10

attempts.)

 1 – way outside of your current skills. (Success rate: 1 or 2 out of

50 attempts.)

On your first few practice sessions with this book, setup the EZ shots.
You might discover that you should have rated some as C or even B
problems. As you master each table layout, change the rating
accordingly.
The book will immediately identify the limits of your skills. This is
necessary. You may not like the differences between reality and your
self-image. However, once you have a realistic understanding of your
current shooting and playing skills, you will make better table
decisions. If that is all this book does for you – it is well worth the
price.
