The Hon’ble Chancellor,

Subject- SEEKING INTERVENTION OF HON’BLE CHANCELLOR ON HIKE OF EXAM FORM FEE IN THE
TIMES OF PANDAMIC.

Your Excellency,

The instant decision taken after the video of a little kid goes viral on social media complaining about the burden
of online classes gives hope to the student community that someone at the top is listening and justice is no more
delayed. We (Tajamul Islam and Aabid Mushtaq) are currently pursuing B.A.L.L.B (Hons) from Department
of Law, University of Kashmir. As a law student we feel the staunch burden to speak up at a time when students
face extreme burden due to continuing financial crisis created by pandemic.

We are writing this letter to draw your kind attention towards the fact that Kashmir University hiked the fee
structure even in the times of great crisis not only in Indian economy but also in the global market. The practice
of hiking exam form fee and other fee apart from tuition fee in the middle of pandemic is giving mental stress to
students especially to those whose parents have undergone substantial pay cuts or have lost the work altogether
due to Covid induced lockdown. It is extremely difficult for a large section of students to pay hiked amount who
were expecting concession in fee after the virtual shift of teaching and exams. With great regret Kashmir
University without any empathy towards student community are charging them for the expenses which are not
to be incurred during the online exams – No or minimal use of teaching and non teaching staff for conducting
online exam, printing of question papers, answer books, stationary, other charges and so on.

Further more, while we are writing this letter the university is accepting examination form for conducting exam
for autumn session and the examination via online mode has been already notified, hiking the fee for online
mode comes not less than a shock for students as mentioned above there is less expenditure involved in
conducting online exam against the offline mode of examination. Earlier the students from law department who
appear in the recent last examination via offline mode paid only 1525 but this time when the mode is online
students are compelled to pay 2025. ( Screen shot of electronically generated fee invoice is annexed herewith
and marked as Annexure 1) It is imperative to mention that, if the university conducts online exams then
students are required to buy own computers/laptops and pay for personal internet connection thus adds further
burden to students.

It is our humble request to take cognizance into this matter and direct the concerned officials against this daylight legal
extortion which is continuing from past two academic sessions.

Thank you for your time and consideration!

Yours Sincerely

Tajamul islam and Aabid Mushtaq
