PARTS OF DC MOTOR::

DC MACHINE::
There are two types of DC machines

 DC GENERATOR
 DC MOTOR

DC GENERATOR::
“An electrical Generator is a machine which converts mechanical energy
(or power) into electrical energy (or power).”

PRINCIPLE::
   It is based on the principle of production of dynamically (or motionally)
induced e.m.f (Electromotive Force). Whenever a conductor cuts magnetic flux, dynamically
induced e.m.f. is produced in it according to Faraday's Laws of Electromagnetic Induction.
This e.m.f. causes a current to flow if the conductor circuit is closed.

DC MOTOR::
An electric motor is a machine which converts electrical energy into
mechanical energy.
PRINCIPLE::

 It is based on the principle that when a current-carrying conductor is placed in

a magnetic field, it experiences a mechanical force whose direction is given by Fleming's Left-
hand rule and whose magnitude is given by

                       F = B I L  (Magnetic Force “Newton”)

MAIN PARTS OF DC MOTOR::

The main parts of dc motor are following

1. Magnetic frame or Yoke

2. Pole-cores and Pole-Shoes
3. Field Poles
4. Field Coils
5. Armature Core
6. Armature Windings or Conductors
7. Commutator
8. Brushes and Bearings

1. MAGNETIC FRAME OR YOKE::

Magnetic frame is outer frame of machine
which provides It provides mechanical support for the poles and acts as a protecting
cover for the whole machine and It carries the magnetic flux produced by the poles.
2. POLE CORE AND POLE SHOES::
Motor works on magnetic induction either you
use permanent magnet or electromagnet core. We winds the core and current through
windings magnetizes the core and provide magnetic field. Core provides magnetic field and
supports windings of motors. Pole shoes also provides support to windings.

3. POLE COILS OR FIELD COILS::

The field coils are those windings, which are located
on the poles and set up the magnetic fields in the machine. They also usually consist of
copper wire are insulated from the poles. The field coils may be either shunt windings (in
parallel with the armature winding) or series windings (in series with the armature
winding) or a combination of both.
Armature Core or Stack. The armature stack is made up thin
magnetic steel laminations stamped from sheet steel with a blanking die. Slots are
punched in the lamination with a slot die. Sometimes these two operations are done as
one. The laminations are welded, riveted, bolted or bonded together.
4. ARMATURE CORE::
The power-producing component of an alternator,
generator, dynamo or motor. The armature can be on either the rotor or the stator.

5. ARMATURE WINDINGS::
 Armature windings are conductors and present in
armature core. The conductors are placed in the armature slots which are lined with
tough insulating material. This slot insulation is folded over above the armature
conductors placed in the slot and is secured in place by special hard wood or fibre
wedges.
6. COMMUTATORS::
A commutator is an electrical switch that periodically reverses the
current in an electric motor or electrical generator. It converts the alternating current
induced in the armature conductors into unidirectional current in the external load circuit.

7. BEARINGS OR BRUSHES::
The brushes whose function is to collect current
from commutator, are usually made of carbon or graphite and are in the shape of a
rectangular block. These brushes are housed in brush-holders usually of the box type variety.
