LAB EXPERIMENT -1

Aim of the experiment: To Determine the Capacity and Cop of

vapour Compression Refrigeration System.

Experiment Questions:

Q.1) Why COP is used to estimate the performance of refrigerating

systems?

Ans: We all know that the coefficient of performance is used to

compare or quantify the performance of refrigeration cycles. The
efficiency of refrigeration systems is denoted by its COP. A high COP
value represents a high efficiency. From an economic point of view,
the best refrigeration cycle is one that removes the greatest amount
of heat from the inside of the refrigerator for the least expenditure
of mechanical work or electric charge, this is determined by COP.
Because efficiency is less than or equal to one, also to avoid the
oddity we need to express the efficiency of these devices with COP
which is mostly greater than one.

Q.2) What is the effect of condenser flow rate on COP of

refrigeration system?

Ans: Decrease in condenser pressure and temperature results in

increase in refrigeration effect and compressor input, due to
this COP will increase. The refrigeration capacity decreases and the
compressor power increases with an increase in the condensing
temperature.
