Slide 2: What is Social and Cultural Sustainability?

Social and cultural sustainability is concerned with people's prospects to thrive. Our needs vary
depending on where we live and what we're doing in our lives. It could be about religious
freedom or seeking meaning in life in a developed society.

Slide 3: Zealong Tea Estate, New Zealand

• The Zealong Tea estates is based in Hamilton, New Zealand.

• Vincent Chen was responsible for the inception of the estate back in 1996.

• He was inspired by a Camellia flower which closely resembles the properties of tea.

• Produces 100% organic award-winning tea [ CITATION TeW19 \l 1033 ].

• The estate started with a mere 130 tea cuttings. However, today the estate is home to over
1.2 million tea plants.

• The estate specializes in Oolong Tea, Black tea, Blended Teas and Green tea.

Slide 4: Does Zealong Meet Ethical Food Standards?

Realizing how much hardship and oppression goes into the commonly associated consumption
items that make up our store shelves can be quite daunting. Whether it's animal cruelty, labourer
exploitation, a lack of healthy food options, or ecological destruction, it's easy to give up and
conclude that making ethical food choices is impossible [ CITATION Foo21 \l 1033 ].

However, that is not true and Zealong’s residue free products pride itself in guaranteeing a
certified piece of mind [ CITATION Zea211 \l 1033 ]. It is certified by:

 Biogro Organic
 Biogro Non GMO
 USDA Organic
 EU Organic
 HACCP
 ISO 22000
 New Zealand Grown
 Fianz Hala
 Fernmark

Slide 6: How Is The Brand Perceived By The Consumers?

Zealong tea exercises effective marketing strategy by providing higher levels of information to
the people. Furthermore, over the years it has managed to maintain premium quality of products.
Another reason that has won it wide acclamation is the fact that the company encourages health
and wellbeing that is very much associated with tea drinking [ CITATION MyA19 \l 1033 ].

New Zealand buyers usually experience their first cup of Zealong tea at the estate’s popular tea
house and in the process they become their best ambassadors here as well as offshore which is
marketing at its best. Now the company aims at taking the premium tea business to a discerning
world market. Moreover, 70 percent of production is consumed offshore as of today including
China and Europe (and more specifically Germany) which have led to the company’s biggest
gains in offshore markets. Even though China is saturated with premium tea, New Zealand’s
‘clean green’ concept agrees with discerning consumers.

The company plans to extend its markets in the UK, Czech Republic, The Netherlands,
Switzerland and Japan [ CITATION NZB18 \l 1033 ].
