Give and Explain the Pre-referral Process in Special Education? (25pts)
The pre-referral process helps educator’s uses problem solving team to find an effective teaching strategies that would work for struggling students.
The pre-referral process phases are as follows:
1. Students is put through a universal screening where struggling
students are identified. 2. The student is then moved to the second tier of the RTI process where they are given an effective data based instruction. The student progress is monitored regularly. 3. If the student needs additional support and still struggles after receiving instruction specified during the Tier 1, the student is moved to Tier 2 where they will have extra additional support from teachers and professional educators. 4. If the student is still considered unresponsive, the child is eligible for referral to be evaluated for disability and to see if they quality for special educational services. 5. After if the student's progress is not improving, the student will then receive more intensive instruction in general education classroom or in a special educational classroom.
