SIMPLE PRESENT

REVIEW

Introduction

Hello everyone! On this week we will continue with the tenses


review.
You will remember that simple present is used to talk about
routines and habits, permanent situations and something that is
always true.
Also remeber that adverbs of frequency help you to express how
often you do something.


Present Simple Affirmative
•  We add an `s´to the verbs in the third person singular he, she, it.
Subject Verb Complement
I / you / We / they + go + to the park.
He / She / It + goes + to the park.

-ies -es -s
.Add `–ies´ if the verbs end in Add `–es´ to the verbs that end in Most of the verbs end with
consonant + “y” –ch, -sh, -o, -ss, -x `–s´
study-studies watch – watches dance –dances
cry-cries crash – crashes clean – cleans
fly-flies go – goes drive –drives
kiss – kisses swim – swims
fix - fixes play - plays
Present Simple Necative
We use don’t or doesn’t to make negative sentences in the present simple tense.

Subject Auxiliary Verb**


I / you / we / they + don’t go to the park.
want some coffee.
he / she / it + doesn’t like plating soccer.

Affirmative: You speak English. **The base form of the

= to go, to need, to
speak, to live
Affrimative: He speaks English. Look! Third person
Negative: He doesn’t speak English. verbs lose the final `s´in
negative sentences.
Be careful… I no live in Japan. ✗
I don’t live in Japan. ✓

Affirmative: She has a cat.


Negative: She doesn’t has a cat. ✗
Negative: She doesn’t have a cat. ✓

Contractions

do not = don’t
does not = doesn’t
Present Simple Interrogative
We use Do or Does to make questions in the simple present tense

DO + I / you / we / they + go to the park?

DOES + he / she / it + like plating soccer?

Affirmative: You speak English. **The base form of the
