2. Food-Substance consisting essentially of protein, carbohydrate, fat, and other
nutrients used in the body of an organism to sustain growth and vital processes and
to furnish energy. The absorption and utilization of food by the body is fundamental to
nutrition and is facilitated by digestion.
Diet - is the sum of food consumed by a person or other organism. The word diet
often implies the use of specific intake of nutrition for health or weight-management
reasons with the two often being related.
Proteins - are essential nutrients for the human body. They are one of the building
blocks of body tissue and can also serve as a fuel source.
Carbohydrates — fiber, starches and sugars — are essential food nutrients that your
body turns into glucose to give you the energy to function. Complex carbs in fruits,
vegetables and whole-grain products are less likely to spike blood sugar than simple
carbs sugars.
Fats-The body uses fat as a fuel source, and fat is the major storage form of energy
in the body. Fat also has many other important functions in the body, and a moderate
amount is needed in the diet for good health. Fats in food come in several forms,
including saturated, monounsaturated, and polyunsaturated.
Vitamin - is an organic molecule that is an essential micronutrient which an organism
needs in small quantities for the proper functioning of its metabolism. Essential
nutrients cannot be synthesized in the organism, either at all or not in sufficient
quantities, and therefore must be obtained through the diet.
Minerals - In the context of nutrition, a mineral is a chemical element required as an
essential nutrient by organisms to perform functions necessary for life. However, the
four major structural elements in the human body by weight, are usually not included
in lists of major nutrient minerals.
Electrolytes - are salts and minerals, like sodium, potassium, calcium, magnesium
and chloride, in the body that maintain fluid balance and blood pressure. If you've got
too much or too little of any one electrolyte, you could experience dehydration, over-
hydration, or other imbalances unless replenished quickly.
Health - a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely
the absence of disease and infirmity." A variety of definitions have been used for
different purposes over time.

3. In Nutrition we need FOOD because FOOD is source of nutrients and energy and
we need proper DIET to maintain HEALTHY body in DIET we need proper amount of
CARBOHYDRATES, FATS, VITAMINS, MINERALS ELECTROLYTES and
PROTEIN to achieve nutrients we need daily.
Amino acids are organic compounds that contain amino and carboxyl functional
groups, along with a side chain specific to each amino acid. The key elements of an
amino acid are carbon, hydrogen, oxygen, and nitrogen, although other elements are
found in the side chains of certain amino acids.

4. Nutrition is the biochemical and physiological process by which an organism uses

food to support its life. It includes ingestion, absorption, assimilation, biosynthesis,
catabolism and excretion. The science that studies the physiological process of
nutrition is called nutritional science.
