looking around,
The battle scene was harsh,
bodies lay scattered on the ground,
with the nauseating scent of blood,
surrounding me.
I can hardly see,
For smoke blinds my eyes,
and as I look around,
my heart sinks,
and fills with sorrow.
I want this battle to end.
Noises of gunfire hurt my eardrums,
Piercing and killing lives.
The image and feelings,
scar me for life,
This is the place of death
and I try hard to keep hope.

This poem is from a writer of poetry, Alexis

Molina. She wrote this poem is to bring out a
message to her readers that how cruel wars are,
not only about the awful things that happened
during the war but also how war has changed
life for a soldier.

The poem starts off by talking about war itself.

As we all know, the atmosphere of war is very
stressful and required soldiers to be intensively
focus at any time, as I read through the poem, I
could feel the sadness brought out from the
poem.

Favourite part:
"bodies lay scattered on the ground,
with the nauseating scent of blood,
surrounding me."

The reason why I liked this part is because this

gives me a image of everything slowing down as
the soldier was in panic, it also brings out the
theme of the poem - war & revolutionary.

Although we can tell that the soldier in the

poem is losing hope and want to "escape", but at
the end of the poem it states that "My men call
my name, I'm in war" to let us know that war
will never end.

From this poem, I learn that war not only takes

away soldiers' life, it also makes soldiers that
comes out alive never be the same as they were
before.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION OF
THE SONG
The Song, "Fortunate Son" is written and
performed by Creedence Clearwater Revival.
It's a antiwar songs during 1970s which is
when America decided to join the Vietnam
war.
The reason why Creedence Clearwater
Revival wrote this song is because they was
angry of the draft, at the period of time, when
the US goverment has drafted you in the list,
you must go to fight for US no matter what,
that's why they made the song to represent
their dissatisfied.
The song "It ain't me, it ain't me, I ain't no
senator's son, It ain't me, it ain't me, I ain't no
fortunate one"
During that time, rich man/ senator's son are
being called as fortunate one as they don't
have to go to war as their parents are the one
who drafting people to the frontline.
For the fortunate sons, "born with the silver
spoon in their hand," life is good. Protected
by class privilege and a discriminatory
conscription system that favors the wealthy
and well-educated, they never have to serve
in Vietnam. They have the luxury of seeing
the war only as an abstract idea, something
they hear about on the news. They are free to
support the war without having to suffer the
consequences.
But for the unfortunate sons of America who
have no inherited wealth or privilege to
protect them, military service will likely send
them into the jungles of Vietnam to fight and
perhaps die in a seemingly pointless war
against an unyielding enemy.
To conclude, this song is a antiwar song that
complains about the drafting system in US.

ITS OWNER IS QUITE SAD THOUGH.
IT REALLY IS A TALE OF WOE,

REFLECTION

I am very happy to work with Anakin,
Trevor, Hugo and Victor. This is the first
time we all together to finish a group
project. It was a very good experience and
although I always makes mistakes in the
project they still forgive me and helped me
through out the whole project.
I think all of us did a very good job on this
project, however, I would like to choose
other themes like friendship or family as
there's more example and more guidelines
for it.
As I was doing the project, I listen to many
songs that about world war 2 which is
1930s~1960s, this is the first time that I'm
"connected" with all these information. But
it really impress me that people from the
pass is very talented and has a very
wonderful writing skills.
In fact, at the start of the project I found it
was very hard because I haven't try to
really write a poem before. but it's a very
good and special experience for me to
figure how to do it.
In this project, Trevor as a leader of our
team did a very good job, he often ask us
how we are doing and what are the
mistakes we are facing, he also gives us
advice on how to make the magazine looks
better. For Anakin & Hugo, they both were
very helpful and always help me with my
problems.
After this project, i learn more on how to
communicate and work with others, and i
hope there will be more project like this is
the near future.

Our ragged troops with bayonets fixed,
For Trenton marched away.
The Delaware see! the boats below!
The light obscured by hail and snow!
But no signs of dismay.

Our object was the Hessian band,

That dared invade fair freedom's land,
And quarter in that place.
Great Washington he led us on,
Whose streaming flag, in storm or sun,
Had never known disgrace.

In silent march we passed the night,

Each soldier panting for the fight,
Though quite benumbed with frost,
Greene, on the left, at six began,
The right was led by Sullivan,
Who ne’er a moment lost.

The pickets stormed, the alarm was

spread,
The rebels risen from the dead
Were marching into town.
Some scampered here, some scampered
there,
And some for action did prepare;
But soon their arms laid down.

Twelve hundred servile miscreants,

With all their colors, guns, and tents,
were trophies of the day.
The frolic o'er, the bright canteen
In centre, front, and rear was seen
Driving fatigue away.

Now brothers of the patriot bands,

Let's sing deliverance from the hands
Of arbitrary sway.
And as our life is but a span,

Dear my friend,
Hi, I am going to recommend
poem you a poem which called
‘Battle of Trenton’ by
Anonymous. This is about the
war at Trenton where
Washington devised to retake
from the hands of the British. If
this attack failed, the revolution
would have certainly fallen.
Although nowadays, there are less wars but still
revolutions. Through the poem, we know what
happen at the war, such as ‘On Christmas-day in
seventy-six’ which we know the time, and ‘our
object was the Hessian band’ ‘In silent march we
passed the night’ we know what happened during
the war. I really recommend you to read this poem,
as this poem describe the war very clearly such as
‘Great Washington he led us on’ ‘Whose streaming
flag, in storm or sun’ those word which can let you
know more about the war. Through the poem, we
also can know that the weather was unforgiving,
ruthless; a terrible mixture of ice and snow and
heavy sleet that not only took the lives of two
soldiers, but soaked the vitally needed gunpowder
the Colonial troops needed for the coming conflict.
So, I am going to recommend you this poem.
For our daily lives, this poem also told us we need
to have a good leader which led to success. In the
poem, it told us that the great Washington led
them on, and you know they finally success, so, a
good leader is also very important for our daily life
which this poem told us.
To conclude, I really recommend you to read this
poem and know more about the significance
behind the war and the protest which appear in
different countries.

I am going to introduce the song called ‘Do You Hear The People Sing?’ It is composed by Claude-Michel Schonberg,
Alain Boublil and Jean-Marc Natel. I choose this song is because nowadays there are lots of war have occurs because
of revolution, also, nowadays, Hong Kong also has revolutions and using this song, so I want to introduce this song.

The background of the music is from the Napoleonic Wars, the restoration of the Bourbon royal family, the July
Revolution to the outbreak of France in 1832 The June Uprising. It is also a revolutionary call for people to overcome
adversity. It was passionate and tragic, and was regarded as one of the representative songs of the revolution
against totalitarianism. The song is usually use in three different ways, which are various languages, as a protest
song and politics. This song is very famous in different countries, as well as Hong Kong. The song has also been
changed to Chinese Version. The lyrics are very powerful, such as in the lyrics which write that ‘Singing a song of
angry man’ and ‘It is the music of a people who will not be slaves again’ which shows the powerful of the lyrics. In
each of the paragraph of the song, you can know their angry.

For me, this song is also related to me, as nowadays, Hong Kong has lots of protest, through the protest, we can hear
that they have sing this song during the protest which show their appeal and their angry because of the government,
so this is also related to me as I also live in Hong Kong.

To conclude, this song is a revolutionary call for people to overcome adversity. Also, it is full of history, and after
listen to this song, I can also feel the angry of the people from the lyrics such as ‘ Is there a world you long to see?’
‘Who will not be slaves again!’ Also, you can hear that they are calling others to stand with them, such as ’Will you
stand up and take your chance?’ This really let me think a lot and know their angry and hope.

soldier?
Hi guys, I have not been sharing poems with you for a while. Let
me share a poem “A War Song To Englishmen “ with you.
Obviously, this poem is about a war.
The writer is William Blake. He was born on November 28,1757 in
London, England.
William began writing at an early age at age 10. He studied
engraving and grew to love Gothic
art, which he incorporated into his own unique works. He was a
misunderstood poet, artist and
visionary throughout much of his life, but he found admirers in
the later part of his life, which has
been very influential since his death on August 12, 1827.
Although we didn’t suffer from war before, I could
visualize how tense it would be at war from the
wording. Along with the repetition, for example,
"Prepare, prepare!" at the end of each paragraph,
created a nervous atmosphere from beginning till
the end. I could imagine the soldiers had put al
l military equipment and ready to fire at their
enemies anytime.
In the 5th stanza, ” Soldiers, prepare! Our cause is
Heaven's Cause, Soldiers, prepare! Be worthy of
our cause, Prepare to meet our fathers in the sky”.
I could imagine I went with the soldiers and heard
that they were yelling, shouting and sweating.
Then, fight against their enemies.
In the past, people were willing to sacrifice for
their country. Nowadays, people can’t
even trust each other. Isn’t that sounds ironic that
communication technology improves the
frequency
but not quality. People still feel lonely even read
tons of message in social media.

“Bella Ciao” (Goodbye My Beautiful) is an Italian protest folk

song that originated in the late 19th century, sung by the
Mindanao workers in protest to the harsh working conditions in
the paddy fields of North Italy.

The song was modified and adopted as an anthem of the anti-

fascist resistance by the Italian partisans between 1943 and
1945 during the Italian Resistance. The resistance of Italian
partisans against the Nazi German forces occupying Italy, and,
during the Italian Civil War, the Italian partisan struggle against
the fascist Italian Social Republic and its Nazi German.

As the song is really famous .It has been played in different TV

shows or protest. the most well-known once is probably sung in
Netflix Spanish television series “Money Heist” in which the
song is regularly played in symbolic moments as a metaphor

The reason why I choose this song for the theme of war and
revolution because this Italian folk song has an almost
worldwide use as an anthem for the anti-fascist resistance over
the 50 years. The beautiful lyric is thought-provoking and
inspiring while the fabulous melody is very catchy. For
example

goodbye my Beautiful, goodbye my Beautiful, goodbye) Besides,
this song has taught us never bow to the demon. All of us
should remember
our ancestors had paid a high price for the justice and freedom.
Every revolution and war has a really high price and many
innocent
lives were wiped out . Last but not least , everyone must say no
to
any racist and extremism or else we will not have freedom and
democracy. Especially while there are more anti- Asian case are
reported during the COVID-19 in the West society .Please cherish
freedom and righteousness because its not a must and our
ancestry had already paid a unbelievable price for it.

This song were written by Oliver Wendell Holmes JR who was an

American jurist. He was served as an Associate Justice of the
Supreme Court of the United States. He wrote this poem was
talking about his experience of fighting in the Americans Civil War.
Holmes was affected by his poem, he helped move American legal
thinking towards legal realism. In this poem, the people were full
of blood that were laying on the grass. And some of the people
were telling the young boy how his father died during this war.
How sad of the people were living in this city when they are having
the war which will be happen at any time that they won’t

 Reflection

After I read about these poems and song and I am so happy and
luckily that there is no war and revolution in my country. So that
no people were killing by this tragedy, and the family won’t lost
their family members during the war. I feel so sad for the people
who were living in those country that also with the war. I think the
young children were so poor because they saw all those terrible
scene when they were young, and they were living in this terrible
place full of war and fighting. On the other hand, without the water
and food are also affect the people during the war. Finally, I don’t
want the war will happen again in the World.
