 Technical requirements:
A research writer shall conform to the following technical requirements as follows:
o Font size : 12
o Font style : Arial
o Bond Paper size: 8 ½ x 11, substance 20
o Spacing : Double – space between all lines of the manuscript. Double – space after every
line in the title, headings, references, figure captions, and all parts of the tables
After commas and semicolons – one space
After colons – two spaces
After punctuations marks at the end of the sentences – two spaces
After periods that separate parts of the reference citation – two spaces
After periods of the initials in personal names – one space
After internal periods in abbreviations: no space
Hyphen – no space before and after
Dash- type as two hyphens with no space before and after
Minus-type as a hyphen with no space on both sides
o Table of Contents : Should only reflect title of the required thesis parts, tables and figures and
equivalent page number each
o Cover page contents: See/inquire at the College of Teacher Education Office
o Inside page citations and reference listing: APA Style
o Graph title and textual presentation: complete textual interpretation of the graphs comes after graphs,
charts, etc.; title comes before the figures (graphs, charts, maps, drawings, photographs) etc. (not justified
nor indented to the right). Table numbers etc. come before the title of each.
o Margins: top, bottom and right – 1 inch; left – 1.5 inches
o Indentation: one tab to the right for all first line/ sentence of the paragraph.
o Appendices: start each on a separate page
o Tables: start each on a separate page
o Figure captions: start on new page
o Figures: place each on a separate page
o Numbers expressed in words: use words to express any number that begins a sentence, title or text
heading. (Whenever possible, reword the sentence to avoid beginning with a sentence; common fractions
(e.g. one fifth of the class); university accepted usage (e.g. five Pillars of Islam)
o Symbol for percentage. Use the symbol for percent only when it is preceded by a numeral. Use the word
percentage with a number is not given. In table headings and figure legend, use the symbol % to conserve
space
o Numbers: use figures to express all numbers 10 and above; words for numbers below 10
o Page number: upper right-hand corner; page numbers are not visible in every first page of every chapter.
o The use of outlines shall not be allowed in any parts of the thesis especially in presenting reviewed
literature.
o Abstract : should be written in one page only; should be between 150 – 250 words/
abbreviation and acronyms used in the paper should be defined in the abstract. Keywords should be written
after the abstract.

o References: start on a new page. Center the title “Reference” and alphabetize the entries. Do not underline
or italize the title. Double-space all entries. Every source mentioned in the paper should have an entry.

 Defense and defense criteria


The thesis committee shall be guided by the following criteria in evaluating the researcher’s paper as
follows;

Proposal Defense
 Intellectual development and contribution to the institution and to the existing body of
knowledge (40%)
 Substance of content and scope of the study as reflected in the statement of the problem
(10%)
 Appropriateness and acceptability of the method, design, statistical tools / data analysis and
sampling technique based on the specific problems (20%)
 Novelty (20%)
 Research ethical considerations (10%)
 Ability to present and defend the proposal (20%)

Final Defense (QUANTITATIVE)


Written work (30%)
- The problem is well stated
- Sub problems are logically arranged
- Literature is relevant to the study
- Methodology is well explained
- Statistical treatment is appropriate
- Conclusions, recommendations are congruent with the findings
Candidates’ ability to defend research (50%)
- Mastery of the content of the research
- Knowledge of the problem area and allied fields
- Clarity and comprehensiveness in the presentation of work
- Ability to keep discussion in the main issues
- Ability to communicate ideas orally, comprehend and respond to questions well
- Ability to demonstrate a professional attitude found in the suggestions and revisions
Miscellaneous (20%)
(Adherence to technical requirement, novelty and contribution to the field of knowledge)
- The work leaves an impression of well – research study
- Grammar, mechanics, format are generally acceptable
- New knowledge is gained for the finding of the study
- Breadth and depth of discussion is noticeable
- Originality is evident

Preliminaries

Title Page Contains the following information


1. Title of the Research / Thesis
2. Full name of the researcher
3. The degree for which the thesis is presented
4. The department to which it is presented
5. The month and year in which the degree is to be granted

Approval Sheet Certification of approval of the department to which the thesis is presented and
contains:
1. Complete title of the thesis

2. Full name of the researcher


3. Degree to which thesis is applied for
4. Statement of acceptance
5. Adviser’s full name and signature
6. Names of Oral Examination Committee and Signatures
7. Dean’s full name and signature
8. Complete date of oral defense

Acknowledgement  Researcher’s written recognition and appreciation of the assistance and guidance
provided by people who helped him in bringing the thesis into completed form
 Ideally expressed in simple, sincere and tactful language, limited to one page and
in certain cases to no more than two pages
 May bear the initials of the researchers in capital letters at the bottom

Dedication  A part of the preliminary pages where the authors or researchers express not only
signs of gratitude but also affection of love to people whom the researcher wishes
to offer his/her research work.
Abstract  Brief and concise descriptions of the problem investigated, the methodology used
and the significant findings, conclusions and recommendations.

Table of contents List of chapter headings into which the thesis is divided and may include the following:
1. Preliminaries
2. Chapter number (written in Arabic)
3. Chapter titles and page citations
4. Sub – headings of main headings and page citations
5. Bibliography and page citations
6. Appendix and page citations

List of Figures and Illustrations Made up of the captions of the tables included by the researcher in the report to
provide substantial evidence in the presentation and include of the following:
1. Number of table
2. Exact caption of table
3. Page in the thesis where the table is given

List of Appendices Materials used as appendices should be alphabetically grouped and provided with
titles, and gives the following information:
1. Letter of Appendix
2. Exact caption of title
3. Page in the thesis where the appendix is given
