MANILA, Philippines (18th UPDATE) – 

Taal Volcano was downgraded to Alert Level 2 on


Friday, February 14. It was under Alert Level 4 for two weeks after it first spewed ash on
January 12, then was under Alert Level 3 for almost 3 weeks from January 26.
The eruption has so far affected at least 151,386 families or 584,236 persons in the provinces of
Batangas and Cavite, according to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management
Council (NDRRMC).
Of this number, around 1,813 families or 6,666 persons remain in evacuation
centers. Meanwhile, 52,641 families or 194,806 persons are outside evacuation centers or staying
with relatives or friends.

As of January 19, the cost of agricultural damage rose to P3.22 billion from an earlier figure
of P3.06 billion. Damage to infrastructure was also pegged at P192.98 million as of February 6.
