Jose Protacio Rizal Mercado y Alonso Realonda was born in Calamba Laguna on June 19,
1861. Rizal was the seventh among his 11 siblings, he was baptized by Father Rufino. He was
often made fun by his siblings because of his height, and even get scolded by his father because
of his stubbornness. Her mother was his first teacher, every night her mother taught him how
to speak and read Spanish language. He continued his study in Binan Laguna. Due to his
intelligence, his teacher often let him go home early because his teacher said he had nothing to
teach Rizal because he already knew their lesson.
