Kos or Cos is a Greek island, part of the Dodecanese island
chain in the southeastern Aegean Sea, off the Anatolian coast
of Turkey.

How did the client find you?

It was an open competition for designers organised by the
Municipality of Kos.

What was the client looking for in the logo and

brand identity?
The logo should be original and unique, clear, recognizable,
easy to grasp and attract attention. At the same time, it should
combine elements of the island’s historical, intellectual,
geographical, natural and cultural identity and project its
image as an attractive tourist destination on both the Greek
and the international markets.
The new logo will have various applications and can be
used by the Municipality of Kos in various actions, such as
documents and letters (replacing the national emblem used
today), tourism promotion, communication, information
activities, flags, printed matter, various publications posters,
invitations, leaflets, etc.) and digital applications.

What did you have in mind
for the logo identity?
My intention was to create a
logo for the Municipality of
Kos, which will be practical
and flexible in both printed
and digital media, showing
the identity of the island.
The result is a logo that
combines elements of the
cultural identity of Kos.
The logo is easily
recognisable. My source
of inspiration was the
spiritual, geographic and

archaeological wealth of
the island.
Three elements, the
Asklepieion of Kos, the most
important archaeological
monument of the island,
its seas, an integral part
of the island’s beauty and
history, as well as a church
(St. John of Nafkleros), part
of the spiritual identity of the
island, harmoniously for the
end result.
These 3 elements were
imprinted on minimal icons.
What was your process
when creating the logo
identity?
First I started with a research
that focused on the island’s
history and identity. I chose
the three elements that
represented the island
most, Asklipieio of Kos, the
sea, and the St. John of
Nafcler’s Church.
The next step was
Sketching my ideas. I
focused on simplifying and
combining these three

elements of the island in
order to incorporate them
into the logo. The next step
was to select the most
promising sketches and
continue working on them.
As soon as the logo designs
were ready to be presented,
I created a PDF presentation
depicting the logo designs
created with pictures of
the drawings in real life
examples, along with the
support notes explaining the
decisions taken.

How many concepts did
you create?
In total I created 6 concepts
and I chose to present
two to the Municipality.
Unfortunately it was not my
logo that was chosen as the
winning design.

What was the most

challenging part about
the project?
The most challenging
part of the project was
to create a logo that
combined the elements of
the island and represent
it in a minimalistic design.
