“Mitigation of Sinkhole in Construction Site- Concrete Road”

Introduction

We know that there are numbers of problems or issues in construction sites, either minor

or major. These failures includes pavement defects like construction errors, spalling and pop outs

, monitoring and inspection, disintegration and scaling, efflorescence, pot holes, and cracks

(alligator cracking, joint reflection cracks, edge cracks, transverse cracking, slippage cracks,

longitudinal cracking and block cracking).

One of these issues are sinkholes. Literally, a sinkhole or “karst terrain” of geologists, is a

hole in the ground that forms when water sinks surface rocks such as limestone mostly.

Limestone is easily corroded due to the motion of water. Furthermore, the land usually stays

intact for a long period of time till the underground spaces get bigger and wider. In connection to

that, unexpected buckling of the land surface may occur if there is lack of reinforcements for the

land above the spaces.

In line with that, a sinkhole can be observed in several construction sites suchlike

concrete roads particularly. This phenomenon is likely occurring in some of our concrete roads

due to some deficiencies in it. Probably, danger of the road drivers or riders, traffic, goods,

delayed and long waits might happen if it will be left behind and ignored.

This study aims to provide solutions to this issue especially, the safety of the drivers and

riders that commonly use concrete roads for economical purposes.
