Task Summary
Task: Create an infographic that compares the settlement of Aotearoa (New Zealand) by Maori settlers
and European settlers. Use the jointly constructed infographic (Vikings vs. Crusaders) that we made in
class as a guide for how to put this together.

Questions - Choose at least 5 to compare:

(Your facts about each question need to be in full sentences. Aim for 2-3 sentences per question, not
dot-points like the example we constructed together!)
- What sorts of food did they eat?
- Where did they get their food from?
- What cooking techniques did they use?
- How many settlers were there?
- Where did they come from? (what countries?)
- When did they arrive in Aotearoa (NZ)?
- How did they get to Aotearoa (NZ)?
- What did they bring with them?
- Why did they come to Aotearoa (NZ)?
- What goods did they have to trade?
- What motivated them to trade?
- What languages did they speak?
- What did their houses/towns look like?
- What sorts of clothes did they wear?
- What weapons did they have?
- What religions did they follow?
*Negotiate a question with the teacher: if you have another idea for something you could compare, come
and speak to Miss B about including it in your infographic!

Features - your infographic needs to include the following features:

- A title (that shows what you are comparing)
- Short blocks of texts (facts/things that are true)
- Pictures (that are related to your facts/text)
- Organisation (columns, Venn diagrams etc)
- Colour (used to show different groups)
- Graphs or numbers (only if you are comparing numbers)**

A reference list - tell me where you got your information from (APA formatting) - this can be on the back
of your infographic or handed up as a separate sheet if it doesn’t fit on your poster.
