INTRODUCTION

On-the-job Training is part of a college curriculum that aims to train and

orient students about the work and their future career. It is a type of skill
development where a worker learns how to do the work through hands-on
experience. On the Job Training is one method by which students are
exposed with different work situation designed to give students an
opportunity to experience and a chance to apply the theories and
computation that they have learned from the school. It also helps the
students to acquire relevant knowledge and skills by performing in actual
work setting.

OJT is very important not only to teach students regarding their chosen
career but also to show students the reality about working. The students will
be exposed to the actual work related to the course that they are taking. It
also allows those with no experience to work and to learn at the same time.
On-the-Job Training helps the trainee to learn more about his chosen field
and practice what he has learned from the school. It helps in the building up
of the trainee’s competence. Of course, when a students is competent
enough, he will be able to do things successfully and. This training develops
one’s professionalism in dealing with people. After the training, the trainee
will be able to handle situations properly and he’ll be able to know how to
socialize well with his colleagues. He will also be able to work well with
everyone and he’ll have a good teamwork. OJT also enhances the critical
thinking abilities and discipline of the student conducting his training in a
company. His ability to make sound decisions and evaluate pertinent factors
will be improved.

Bachelor of Science in Information Technology
Having a proper On-the-Job Training helps in the preparation of future
professionals for their future jobs. What the students learned in their On-the-
Job Training, even the little things, can be applied when they are already
working. Students will be trained not only academically but socially as well.
The way they work and communicate with others will not be a problem for
them anymore. It also gives the trainee the chance to immerse himself in his
chosen field and experience and learn the skills necessary to the industry he
is interested in. Working with experienced staff, one will be able to observe
how the job is done properly.

Aside from work experience, On-the-Job Training allows the trainee to

get acquainted with the real professionals and to meet people having
different positions in the company, either high or low. The trainee will be able
to know how to adjust to other people’s personalities and attitudes. On-the-
Job Training requires effort and seriousness. A trainee should take the OJT
seriously as it can be a powerful tool for a person in preparing for the next
chapter of life as a professional. It can possibly be a source of
recommendation when they take that big lift from being students to career
professionals someday.

REACTION

As I reflect over this course, there is a lot that comes to mind. To begin with,
as I went over the course, I had several unique moments that had my jaws
opened and my whole self-amazed. Especially given python was my first
introduction to programming languages. Some of these moments happened
as we went through the following topics: Modules, functions, and turtles.

First, I was amazed by the concept of modules because they presented a

unique way in solving problems using already pre-coded functions that we can
just re-use over and over. Modules enable us to solve enormous amount of
time. Some very complex functions that would be used repeatedly are already
programmed and all we would need to do is just to import them for example
the math and the random modules. Moreover, I really found this topic to be
very important because I got to learn about the random module. This module
is very crucial in bringing to life a programming idea that I had in mind.
Furthermore, I was able to learn about the different import methods and for
what reason to use each of them. This was very beneficial because as an
aspiring programmer I now know how to be more specific when importing
instead of just using the general import method like import math. Furthermore,
it was interesting to find out computer generated random numbers are not
exactly random just because the algorithm that generates them can be
predetermined

Secondly, even deeper than just modules were the topic of functions. I feel
like any words used to express the usefulness of functions would be an
understatement. The ability to write miniprograms or even complex programs
that are portable and could be used over and over is significantly important. I
have read most programing languages offer this ability. However, python’s
syntax for the definition of a function and its structure is very simple making
them easier to use and read. I was amazed by the introduction of user defined
functions
__________________________________________________________________________________
Bachelor of Science in Information Technology
because of their many advantages as it comes to general programing.
Moreover, it was interesting to read about the different type of functions.

Lastly, another aha ha, moment was when we learned how to use loops and
have fun with turtles. Before this course it was always hard for me to
conceptualize the idea of object-oriented programming. However, the turtle
module with the combinations of loops and the professor’s presentation of the
topic provided me with a much better understanding of the concept. Moreover,
working with turtles really provided me with great insight on how gaming and
programing come together. Furthermore, I learnt the difference between
classes, objects, and methods and how they can be utilized in programming.
It was very intriguing to put the for loop in action. This is a very important tool
when it comes to shortening a program and making it simple to use

I found the connectivity of the topics very well organized. The topics were
generally a continuous development of the previous topics which ultimately
contributed in deeper understanding of how and why we do certain things in
python programming. Algorithms that changed the world book was a very
informative book. Additionally, the weekly discussions greatly coupled with the
weekly lectures contributed in my deep understanding of how programming
has influenced the world and how computer systems work.

I would recommend this course to future python programming students. This

course is exactly what an entry level programmer would need to solidify their
basic understanding of the python language. The weekly exercises provided
unique challenges that some needed deep digging into the python
documentation. Nevertheless, after they were all done, they provided a strong
level of experience and confidence in solving problems and finding solutions
using the python language.

C O N C LU S I O N

Nothing beats experience as the perfect learning tool. This On-the- Job
Training served as my stepping stone to pursue my dream to be an IT
Programmer someday. This training gave me an inspiration to be more
serious and focused in studying. I was encouraged to do more efforts in my
studies. Since I was given some ideas about the work of a data analyst in the
company where I conducted my training, I am inspired to be like them
someday.
Despite the short period of my training, it was still a very meaningful
one. The training enriched my confidence created a foundation of being a
good employee someday. It caused a very huge effect to me as a Bachelor of
Science in information Technology Student. I was really renewed. I learned to
be diplomatic in both action and words.
This training made me realize that it is really good to know what you’re
doing, and to love it. As a student, what I can do for now is to learn whatever I
can in school, be inspired, love the path I am taking, and do my best in
everything I do, with a positive outlook in mind. I realized that I should be
more focused in school and do everything heartily and with all that I can.
It is also very warm to the heart to know that you have accomplished
something and even warmer when there are people who are so proud of what
you have done and I felt this feeling during my On- the-Job Training. It
inspired me to be more determined and competitive in everything that I do in
my daily life as a student today and as a professional someday.
My On-the-Job Training is very helpful and will be very helpful to me as
I continue to take my journey as a fourth year student in the field of Computer
Science. It really gave me a taste of the real world – a glimpse of what lies
ahead after I graduate.
