What You Need to Know About Belt Conveyors

One of the essential tools used in the material handling industry is a belt conveyor system. It’s a tool
necessary in transporting bulk solids and other abundant volumes of materials from one place to
another. If you plan to invest on belt conveyors for your factory or manufacturing business, here’s what
you need to know.

What is a Belt Conveyor?

A belt conveyor is reliable and durable equipment used mostly in warehousing and automated
distribution, as well as production and manufacturing facilities. It is commonly sued in the
transport of bulk materials from one place to another. It is considered a labor-saving system
since companies who utilize conveyors can move volumes of materials rapidly with less labor
expense. There are two primary types of industrial belt conveyors – those that are used in
material handling to move boxes in a factory, and those conveyors used to transport volumes of
resources, such as sacks of rice, grain, salt, ore, sand, coal, etc.

Basic Components

A belt conveyor system is comprised of two or more pulleys. The conveyor belt, a loop of
carrying medium, rotates along the system to move the belt and the volumes of materials above
it forward. One or both pulleys are either powered to move the belt. The electrically-powered
pulley is called a drive puller, while the unpowered one is called the idler pulley.

Advantages of Having a Belt Conveyor System

A belt conveyor system is capable of handling a wide range of large volumes, from fine to large
lump sizes. Fine materials such as cement are transported at terminals using belt conveyors.
Likewise, large lump size materials, such as coal, are loaded at mining sites with the help of this
equipment. Moreover, a belt conveyor can be arranged according to the type of application. It
can convey loads of materials horizontally, in an inclined position, or a combination of both to
efficiently deliver and distribute supplies. A belt conveyor allows easy transport of materials
while saving your time and effort.

There are many types of belt conveyors in the market to suit the various materials or products that
need to be transported. Choose the type that meets your preferences and provides solutions to the
handling system problems in your factory or manufacturing business.
