‘it’s my glasses’. The man also says ‘I took them off … and didn’t notice that I’d left them on
the seat when I got off (the train)’. A is incorrect. The man mentions the headphones, but he
doesn’t say he has lost them: ‘I took them (my glasses) off when I was using my headphones’.
B is incorrect. The woman says ‘Let me guess – you lost your gloves, didn’t you?’ The man
says ‘Yes, I’ve done that before’, but it doesn’t mean that he lost them yesterday.

2 The correct answer is B: The woman says ‘I’ll be able to have some time on the beach
tomorrow’. A is incorrect. The woman mentions a meal, but she is seeing her cousin and his
family ‘the day after tomorrow’. C is incorrect. The woman says ‘I was going to drive up there
tomorrow, but I’ve decided to go this evening (today)’ because she doesn’t want to ‘[waste] the
first day of [her] holiday driving’.

In other words, he wants a different instrument. B is incorrect. The man says ‘they (the guitars)

8 The correct answer is A: The man says ‘The people who work there are very cheerful’. And
the woman agrees: ‘They (the people who work there) certainly made me feel welcome and
room service were really helpful’. B is incorrect. The woman liked the view: ‘I could see the
mountains from my bedroom window – they looked so beautiful’. But the man says ‘all I could
see (from the room) was a brick wall’. C is incorrect. The man says ‘The hotel restaurant could
be better’. The woman agrees, saying ‘It could (be better)’.

9 The correct answer is C: The woman says ‘It’s a shame there weren’t a few more windows in
there – I actually found it quite hard to see some of the paintings’. A is incorrect. The woman says
‘I prefer exhibitions with fewer works of art … I felt like I was hurrying from one painting to the next

in the pool. I needed a hot shower afterwards’. The man replies ‘I felt the same’. A is incorrect.
The woman says ‘I swam for an hour and it cost less than a session in the old place!’ This
means the price has already been reduced. The woman also says ‘It depends how much they
(evening classes) cost’, so she doesn’t know if their evening classes are expensive or not.
B is incorrect. The man talks about different classes, but not about the times.

14 The correct answer is ‘lake’: The man says ‘Come down to the lake – they’re (the cars)
parked beside it’. ‘Fountain’ is incorrect. That is where the signs are located for people to follow
to see the classic cars: ‘If you’re not sure where that is, go to the fountain and follow the signs’.

15 The correct answer is ‘holiday’: The man says ‘you might be the lucky person (the winner)
who gets the holiday’. ‘Computer’ is incorrect. That was the prize last year: ‘Last year’s winner
loved the computer that she won’.

16 The correct answer is ‘burgers’ or ‘a burger’: The man says ‘There’s a special discount on
burgers today’. ‘Sandwiches’, ‘ice-creams’ and ‘hot food’ are incorrect. You can’t buy them
at a lower price.

17 The correct answer is ‘2.30’, ‘two thirty’ or ‘half past two’: The man says that ‘the cars
set off (the race begins) … at half past two’. ‘One o’clock’ is incorrect. That is the time when
the man is giving the information: ‘It’s one o’clock now’. ‘Half past three’ is incorrect. The man
says ‘The fastest cars will … [finish] at around half past three’.

18 The correct answer is ‘north’: The man says ‘Those travelling by train need the north exit’.
‘South’ is incorrect. It is the exit for the car park and the man says ‘if you need the train station,
please avoid the south exit’.

19 The correct answer is ‘cheppsat’ or ‘Cheppsat’: The man says ‘So please upload them to
our website. The website has the name of the village near to this park: www.cheppsat dot org.
I’ll spell Cheppsat for you. It’s C-H-E-double P-S-A-T’. The word must be spelt correctly.

I really wanted to write like her’. A is incorrect. She says ‘I preferred stories to poems’.

sit back and think about the other people around me’. A is incorrect. She says ‘I’d often go out
