1. How is the world governed even in the absence of a world government?

A society that has no government would be considered anarchy. The government
mediates disputes between people, provides basic services like roads, education, and
national security and enforces laws to discourage wrongdoing from being committed. All
of these would not exist in true anarchy.
Nations without government have not truly existed in modern history. In my own
opinion not having a government is like playing games without referees. It worked for
early humans until they confronted challenges that threatened their survival. This
included flooding, fire, attacks from surrounding tribes. Without any governing body,
there is no concept of law enforcement. Governing body and law are integral parts of
each other. Throughout history, the vast majority of people have believed that
government was a necessary part of human existence…and so there have always been
governments. People have believed they had to have a government because their
leaders said so because they always had one, and most of all because they found the
world unexplainable and frightening and felt a need for someone to lead them.
According to Thomas Hobbes (n.d) he states that life without government would be
"solitary, poor, nasty, brutish, and short.”

2. Discuss how the UN are able to embody its 4 pillars?

The United Nations (U.N.) is a global diplomatic and political organization
dedicated to international peace, stability and security, developing friendly relations
between nations (member states) and promoting social progress, better living
standards, and human rights. The U.N. was officially established in 1945 following the
horrific events of World War II. The main reason for the establishment of the United
Nations and it’s pillars is to save the world against the horrible consequences of war.
Horrible experiences of the First and Second World War made the world leaders come
together and think of various ways of preventing the future occurrence of war.
The UN established several programs intended to reduce, as much as possible,
all the factors leading to outbreaks in conflicts. These programs did not only focus on
peace keepers, who intervene after a conflict has erupted, but also on economic and
social development, human rights and the struggle to end world poverty and hunger.
Indeed, all of these United Nations programs contributed directly to its four pillars on the

world. Furthermore United Nations is contributing peace movement through its various
activities such as preventive diplomacy, peace keeping mission, peace building
measures, peace making process, human rights and humanitarian inventions, social
and economical developmental process.

3. Give one example of UN program that is implement in the Philippines today?

One of the programs of the United Nations that implemented here in our country
is UNICEF. It stands for United Nations Children’s Fund. First, let’s define UNICEF. It is
the leading agency for children within the United Nations system. Its role in the
protection of children’s lives over the past 50 years makes it an essential reference for
political authorities, development institutions, research centers, community
organizations, as well as families and children all over the world. Its commitment to
children in times of peace and in times of war, to promote consensus, to encourage
action, to advocate in favor of the most disadvantaged, and shed light on the forgotten,
are now hallmarks of UNICEF’s identity. UNICEF promoted and gave its full support to
the World Summit for Children.
The UNICEF Philippines protects and promotes the rights of every Filipino child.
From the famous quote of our National Hero, Dr. Jose Rizal he says that the youth is
the hope of our nation. UNICEF established in the Philippine office on the 20th Day of
November in the year 1948. Philippines was one of the first four offices established in
Asia, within two years since UNICEF was established on 11 December 1946 by the
United Nations to meet the emergency needs of children in post-war Europe and China.
The role of UNICEF Philippines is helping the PH Government to strengthen national
policies, programs, and services and to ensure that all Filipino children enjoy their rights
with a particular focus on those who are most vulnerable and disadvantaged.
