UPDATE Issue 6: Tuesday 12th April 2011

Hello ACTIV-8ers!
We’ve lost 65 stone and 6 pounds in 4 weeks! We’ve got a little bit slack this past two weeks! We really need to
up the ante now as we are on the home straight! There is no room for error as we try to achieve our 100 stone target!
Come on ACTIV-8ers – make these last few weeks count!

38 Ramblers thoroughly enjoyed Sunday’s walk in

Bernish Glen. The weather was glorious and made
the glen and the experience all the more beautiful.
The photos just don’t do it justice! Brian
McGarvey assisted Mary Daly in leading this one
and they did their best to keep everyone on track
despite the best efforts of renegade ramblers
Mick Daly and MJ Mullan who tried to steer the
whole show on a different course altogether! The
good weather meant the ground was well dried up
but we still almost lost Mary Slane and a few
wellies in some clabber!
If you have yet to experience a Carmen Ramble,
then you are advised to do so – there really are
some spectacular sites on our doorstep. There’s
nothing like a nice walk, great company, amazing
scenery and a few goodies al fresco style to get
your spirits up! The next ramble will take in Scalp
– it’s sure to be a good one! Have a go at it sure!
Thanks are extended to the land owners for
allowing us to enjoy the area!

Massive Massage Marathon!

On Monday 18th April, we are hosting a marathon massage event with 2 aims in mind. 1. It’s good to ease any
aches and pains in our limbs, backs, necks etc and 2. We can help Etaoine ‘The Leprechaun’ O’Kane and her
class mates complete their massage course. Etaoine and her class must be assessed delivering in situ massages
and who better to practice on then the ACTIV-8ers! For this activity, we are awarding 10 bonus points for
every team member that signs up (and turns up!) Sign up sheet is available at the weigh in or you can book a
slot by contacting Etaoine on 07704913303. Each free slot will last for 35mins approximately and will
commence at 5.45, 6.15, 6.45, 7.15, 7.45 and 8.15pm. We need at least 84 activ-9ers to sign up for this one!

At this stage, our sports gear has been given a real workout, with more washes being done in Carmen
in the last 5 weeks than would normally happen in a month! If you need to invest in a new t-shirt or
sweater, be mindful that the club sells a wide range of club gear in the club shop. Items include
hoodies, t-shirts, polo shirts, kit bags, magnets, shorts, socks, windsheeters etc. The new style gear is
available as well as some old style gear that is on sale for very cheap! The shop opens by appointment
(usually Thursday nights). Contact Pauline Loughran (80761836) if you require any goods.

The calorie burn for one ACTIV-8er at Christine McNally’s class totalled 560 calories which is
amazing in an hour! Imagine if you combined that class, wit a gym work out and a brisk walk – you’d
have over 1600 calories burned in a week! The same ACTIV-8er burned 142 calories on the toning
tables but reckons she worked muscles she didn’t know existed! There could be sores tomorrow!
Contact Sarah McCallan (80761878) to arrange for free use of fat burning machine and toning tables.
What a start the senior ladies made to their campaign defeating reigning county champions St. Macartans by 2
points in an enthralling game at Páirc Colmcille!! Final Score 2:11 to 2:09. There is no doubt that the presence
of so many ACTIV-8ers walking / running / screaming / cheering scared the living daylights out of the St.
Macartan players while spurring Carmen on to greater heights!
This Sunday, the senior men make their league debut for 2011 with a home game v Clonoe. The reserve game
commences at 5pm with senior throw in at 6.30pm. Come along and support the men!
