There are words that describe how

a person, place, thing or animal is.
These words are called adjectives.

Close comparatives adjectives?
 Hot → hotter We double the final consonant.
 Thin → thinner
 Big → bigger

If the adjective ends in a vowel (Consonant + Vowel +

Consonant)
 We change the Y to I and add -ER

 Happy → Happier
 Lucky → Luckier
 Easy → Easier
 Ugly → Uglier
 Funny → Funnier
With adjectives

We use MORE before the adjective
 Important → more important
 Beautiful → more beautiful

With adjectives of two syllables

 Good → better
 Bad → worse
 Far → farther/ further
 Little → less

Some adjectives have an irregular comparative:

 Greek people are friendlier than English people.

 Alex is more intelligent than his sister.

 Athens is older than London.

We use a comparative adjective + THAN + the second

item
 The English are LESS friendly than the Greek.

 It is LESS hot in June than in January.
