1. Teaching English for specific purposes is sometimes quite a daunting challenge for most
of the teachers in any part of the world despite their personal motivation. With the rapid
encroachment of digital technology on all fields of academic teaching and learning, it
becomes all the more incumbent for educators to have effective strategies to incorporate
and exploit the ubiquitous and popular digital platforms to teach their “digital native”
students to have better results. Considering the paramount influence of these digital
platforms and social media, this study aims at exploring the potent effect of Facebook
as one of the pervasive digital platforms to teach ESP to students.

2. This study examines the viewpoints of Macau and Singapore residents on the
development of casino gambling and the social, economic, and environmental impacts
that are thought to arise. The sample comprised 416 respondents from Macau and 409
from Singapore. An analysis using primarily descriptive statistics indicated both sub-
samples had similar viewpoints although Macau residents tended to have higher scores
pertaining to the consequences of gambling. It is suggested that the differences arise due
to the greater exposure of Macau residents to the influences of casino development.

3. With the enactment of the K to 12, the basic education cycle is extended to include two
additional years at the secondary level. Enrolment in senior high school is expected to
increase to 2.0 million students in public schools and 0.7 million students in private
schools. This will have an effect on the availability of classrooms for the SHS program.
This Policy Note does an initial assessment of the K to 12 program’s effects on the
supply of classrooms and teachers vis-à-vis the projected demand.

4. The purpose of this quantitative study was to examine the different sources of stress
among elementary school teachers in Metro Manila. One hundred ninety-nine (199)
teachers were randomly chosen both from the private and public schools. A survey
questionnaire was developed to gather the respondents’ answer on stress. This study
reports that of the four sources of stress identified, the pupils’ behavior and achievement
recorded a significant difference in terms of age, gender, number of years of teaching
experience and type of school (either public or private).

5. In the Philippines, to be able to provide a better life to families, sacrifice is essential.

This is the reason we have an estimated 2.4 million Overseas Filipino Workers (OFW),
which contributes to the country’s economic growth through remittances. However, there
is financial inclusion where only 42% Filipinos have access to banks, which triggered the
need to have a more effective and efficient way of transmitting money. This spawned the
cutting-edge innovation of cashless payments. Because of the advent of Internet, it has
conceived the business service of e-Commerce. However, even with a strong top-down
support from the Philippine government, Philippines is still dependent with cash and
cheque mode of payments. This research study explores the factors that influences the
adoption of the currently available electronic payment systems in terms of general,
privacy, security, and trust perceptions, which were obtained from existing literatures
on e-Commerce and transformed to fit the study. With the datasets collected from an
online survey from 33 respondents, linear regression was considered as the statistical
technique that will help emerge the factors influencing the use and/or non-use of the
electronic payment systems. In conclusion, doing online transaction is equivalent to
convenience where the current technologies we have contributes and the diverse payment
schemes encourages to do online transactions according to the individual preferences
based on the perceptions. Furthermore, daily work hours and gender contributes to the
adoption of electronic payment systems as well. Through this research study, it affirms
the government initiatives that it is improving the adoption of cashless payments.
Additionally, it will help businesses target the preferences of their customers at the same
time increase their profit.

6. With the gradual shift of nursing practices to a more emotional and open practice,
there is now a need to evaluate the connection and interaction between emotional
intelligence & nursing work. Emotional Intelligence is the ability to cope up with
the external pressures and demands. Nursing work is heavy on cognitive demands
because it is unpredictable and fast-paced. The act of multitasking is present in this
context and is defined as the ability to achieve/execute multiple goals in the same
period with frequent switches among tasks. Past studies failed to consider the
interaction of all four components of emotional intelligence with the multitasking
ability of a person.

7. Engineering is one of the male dominated careers, however, there is an increasing

women entry into the engineering profession in the Philippines. Scholars have reported
numerous factors on women entry in engineering careers such as rewarding work
opportunities, interest, and talent in science and mathematics, etc. This different reason
led women to enter into engineering career which is worthy of study. The study assessed
the effects of parental income on work values of women in the engineering profession.

A descriptive survey research designed was used, 39 respondents were purposively

selected from various Engineering programs (civil, mechanical, electrical, computer,
electronics, marine engineering, and environmental and sanitary). The study utilized One
way MANOVA with post hoc analysis. Results showed that the respondents have
“moderate” intellectual achievement orientations, interpersonal, and occupational work
values and they had “weak” familial, managerial, and material work values. Further, the
computed One way MANOVA reported that parental income affects the intellectual-
achievement orientation, interpersonal, managerial, material, and occupational some
work values of women engineers. This report has implication on guidance and
counseling practice on career placement of women in the engineering industry.

8. The study is aimed at determining the relationship between the entrance examination
results and the performance in selected first year courses of Engineering students at
the Lyceum of the Philippines-Laguna. Data were collected from the records of the
entrance examination administered by the Guidance Office and the records of the final
grades from the Registrar’s office. The 109 students were enrolled in the four
Engineering programs: Electronics and Communications Engineering, Electrical
Engineering, Computer Engineering and Industrial Engineering. Majority of the
students enrolled in the Engineering programs are males and the students prefer the
Electronics and Communications Engineering program. These students are the highest
performing in terms of the entrance examination scores and the final grades in the
selected first year courses. The study revealed that the entrance examination results of
freshmen students are highly related to their performance in Algebra, Trigonometry,
English, and Filipino. There is significant difference between males and females in
the scores in the OLSAT Verbal category, and the final grades in Algebra, English, and
Filipino. There is significant difference among programs in the OLSAT Total Scores,
Verbal Scores, and the Non-verbal scores, and the final grades in Trigonometry and
Filipino. The study has shownthat results in the entrance examination could be
used to predict the performance of the students in their first-year courses.

9. Regardless of one’s major or field of specialization, science or Chemistry specifically,

plays an enormous role in life. Chemistry has become an indispensable feature in creating
innovative tools in teaching the fact that Chemistry informs, many thoughts and
behaviors, students have not valued science in general and Chemistry in particular.
Thus, this study utilized the quantitative research with the use of a questionnaire to
collect necessary data for the study and the Sloven formula to determine students’
attitudes and level of confidence after taking introductory Chemistry subjects taught
in tertiary level science courses at Centro Escolar University, Makati Branch. The
findings confirmed that the CEU Makati students have high-level of confidence after

taking up Chemistry. Male or female, whether a graduate from private or public high
school shows the same confidence level after taking Chemistry in performing exploring
and applying what they have learned in their everyday activities and to other science
subjects. Furthermore, there is a significant relationship between students who take up a
science-related course as to their attitude level and level of confidence after taking up
Chemistry. Teachers should encourage and motivate students to develop a high positive
attitude towards Chemistry through skills and their ability.

10. Aralinks by Phoenix Publishing Inc. is one of the Learning Management Systems (LMS)
used in the Senior High School department of Holy Angel University. This LMS is now
being used by teachers and students in many institutions. However, there are still limited
researches about its integrity and effectiveness as a tool for distance learning. This
quantitative-descriptive research focuses on identifying the effectiveness of the use of
Aralinks as a tool for learning English courses. The study utilized stratified random
sampling and identified 29 teachers from the Senior High School department as
respondents in this study. Using an adapted five-point Likert scale survey, the researcher
was able to identify the perception of teachers using Aralinks. The results show the LMS
Aralinks is effective. However, assessments have high risk of leakage and cheating which
makes the teachers doubt its integrity. Based on the results given, it is recommended to
have additional functionalities that enable teachers to view concrete behavior of learners
that correspond to cheating or misbehavior during the accomplishment of assessment.
