The Secret Dangers of Cell Phone Usage

Over sixty thousand cell phones are sold out each day in America only. According to

Adams et al., (2014), over one billion people own a cell phone or at least occasionally have

access to one. The use of cell phones has spread throughout the world within the last fifteen

years, and its several positive impacts in the personal lifestyle have blinded most of its

hazardous nature. Hardly do most cell phone users noticed the dangers they subject

themselves when they engage with their cell phones for long hours. Drago (2015) states that

the society does not have a clue of the radiations and social conflicts and issues that arise as a

result of the existence of the mobile phone. Despite making people's lives more comfortable

and fun, cell phone usage has unperceived health complications and social problem that

continuously affect the daily lives of its users and those around them.

Continuous use of cell phones for several years and long duration daily deteriorates

the health of its users. According to Adams et al., (2014), cell phones generate

electromagnetic radiations (EMR) that are harmful to those exposed to it over a long

duration. EMRs have been associated with health complications such as palpitations, vertigo

and reduced libido. Furthermore, the radiation cause other illness such as skin cancer,

anxiety, irritability and headaches. EMR from cell phones has been linked to the increasing

reports of genetic disorders observed in infants born from mothers who are highly addicted to

their cell phones. Zhao, Freeman & Li (2016) further states that children make up the most

substantial number of victims of cell usage as their body immunity is still developing. Also,

children tend to have thinner and smaller skull that easily allow the penetration of the radio

waves from the cell phones into their body thus affecting their body organs. Despite its

paramount role in improving healthcare delivery, improper usage of cell phones secretly

undermines the well-being of those exposed to it over long durations.

THE SECRET DANGERS OF CELL PHONE USAGE 3

Cell phones have significantly impacted the social life of human being. The world has

been shrunk into a village as a result of the advancement of the cell phone technology as most

people are drawn to social sites to creating new relationships. Over 80% of the millennial

people prefer texting as their primary means of interacting with their peers rather than

physically interaction (Drago, 2015). On the other hand, 50% of the adults prefer calling,

however, the use of mobile phones among the adults is much more than teenagers. Cell

phones have secretly surfaced as tools that define the social class in addition to cars and

appearances. As a result, the low-income families have been continuously segregated hence

division in the society. Billieux et al., (2015) state that cell phones have isolated most of its

users from their families and friends meant to help them improve their social interaction

skills. The current society is characterized by people being busy with the smartphone

applications and paying very little attention to build social bonds with those around them.

In summary, cell phones secretly undermine the health and social life of its users. The

electromagnetic radiations released from the cell phones cause minor and major health

complications when one is exposed over long durations. Too much time spent on cell phones

causes health disorders mainly among teenagers. Moreover, spending more time on cell

phones reduces the amount of time spent on building social interactions skills and bonding

with people around. Cell phones should, therefore, be used with care and only when

necessary to prevent it from creating health and social problems.
