Rizal as a Symbol

He was a renaissance man who dazzled and


insulted an archaic Spanish colonial ruler
with his liberalism in modern politics.
His symbol: A pen that is mightier than the
sword.

WISDOM AND INDEPENDENCE

Jose Rizal is a symbol of wisdom and


independence. He wrote journals
that open the minds of Filipinos
about the profanity of Spaniards.

Rizal's followers who called themselves


Rizalistas believe that Jose rizal is the
second son of God, the reincarnation of
Christ.

Rizal has become a symbol of the Philippine struggle


for independence, and he is known there as the
national hero. December 30, the date of Rizal's
execution in 1896, is celebrated as a national holiday
in the Philippines. The Jose Rizal College was
dedicated to his honor in Manila in 1919.

Nowadays, Rizal's
image are used in
different ways as
symbol.
