MEAT OR NON – MEAT DIET


What diet is healthier? Meat or non – meat. There are hundreds of argument concerning the
benefits and drawbacks caused by eating meat. Many people believe that the value of
vegeterian food is greater than the value of meat. The current food and supplements which can
substitute vitamins and minerals which are present in various types of products. It is possible to
claim that nowadays people can live without meat, because it will protect not only people’s
health but also natural environment.
The first reason for the elimination of meat in our diet is that a non – fat meat diet is healthier
than a diet containing meat. Many researchs show that meat contains more fat than non –
meat foods. It is very difficult for our bodies to process high quantities of fat. A large amount of
fat will be accumulated in the body for a long time, and cause obesity. Moreover, meat contains
a high amount cholesterol, which makes the blood vein difficult to circulate around the arteries.
It will be one of the causes of heart attacks. A diet rich in green vegetables lower the level of
cholesterol, thus reducing the risk of getting a heart attack as well.
Furthermore, since eating meat is responsible for the destruction of the environment, meat
should be excluded from the daily diet plans. The climate change impact of meat is serious. The
industrial meat system requires a huge amount of land to sustain itself. Forest are slashed and
burned every year to grazw catlles, and grow enough crops to feed millions of farms. When
forests are destroyed to produce industrial meat, billions of tones of carbon dioxide are
realeased into the environment, casuing global warming. Therefore, meatless diet will con
tribute to protect the natural environment.
Some might argue that some kinds of vitamins such as vitamin B12 can hardly be found in plant
food. Vitamin B12 is contained only in meat and dairy products. This vitamins participates in the
formation of blood cells. If people’s bodies lack this vitamin, it will cause some neurological
disorders. However, a great deal of research has shown that there are many substitute vitamins
present in vegetables. In fact, the problem does not lie in the nutrition of food, it lies in the fact that not
too many people know about nutritin knowledge. That is why it is nescessary to raise nutrition
awareness of people.

In coclusion, non – meat diet brings people many benefits such as protecting human’s health and
natural environment despite some limitations. From my perspective, people can limit the drawbacks of
meatless diet by finding out nutrition knowledge. No matter which diets you choose, turning your focus
to plant is the most important change.
