Rules to be Observed by all FEMFI Trainees

1. Report to your class on time. Thirty (30) minutes late


will not be accepted without clearance from the
Training Manager.
2. Wear appropriate attire when attending training in
FEMFI; Shorts, Sleeveless shirts, Sandals and Slippers
not allowed.
3. Once inside the classroom observe the following:
 Cellular phone in the silent mode

 Do not operate any equipment without
permission from instructor;
 Do not eat;
 Do not smoke. Smoke only in designated areas;
 Do not litter, throw garbage in garbage bins;
 Do not write on walls, chairs, tables, neither should
you spit or stick gums on them; and
 Listen attentively and participate actively in the
activities.

4. Always bring with you copy of the registration form,
wherever in FEMFI premises.
5. Show respect for the following persons:
 Your instructors
 FEMFI Employees and Staff
 Other trainees
 Yourself
Do not use Abusive Language or actions.
6. Alcohol Drugs and Deadly Weapons are absolutely
prohibited.

7. Observe silence in order not to disturb the training
going on.
8. In using FEMFI Facilities, observe cleanliness always.
9. Always attend to your personal belongings as
FEMFI will not be responsible for the loss of your
personal items.
10. Training will be placed on hold, fees forfeited and
trainees reported to his company if any of these
are committed:

2. Turn the raft with canopy into the wind
3. Climb up onto the raft
4. Get a solid hold of the righting strap
5. Place your feet on the CO2 cylinder and
lean well back

• In heavy weather, it is but natural that the ship will
be influenced by rough sea and swell especially if the
vessel is on light condition.
• To ease the heavy rolling and founding of the ship,
the master must reduce ships speed and or alter
course.
• If ballast can be loaded it will reduce the heavy
rolling and pounding.
• SOLAS 74 lays down the safety requirements in
constructing ships

Designed to be thrown to a person in the water, to
provide buoyancy to prevent drowning.

• Shall be distributed on both sides of
the ship on all decks and at least
one at the vicinity of the stern
• Capable of being rapidly cast loose
and not permanently secured
• At least one lifebuoy on either side
of the ship shall be fitted with a
buoyant lifeline
• Not less than half of the total no. be
provided with self-igniting lights, and
not less than two of these shall also
be provided with self activating
smoke signals.

The clothes you wear and the gear you take with
you depends upon whether you are in a hot or cold
climate.

Actions before leaving the ship:
• If possible, drink plenty of water, hot tea/coffee
to ward off effect of cold water.

In Cold Climate:
• Long woolen underwear and woolen socks to keep
body warm.
• Wind proof jacket to protect shoulder and arms.
• Helmet or watch cap to keep head warm and
water out.
• Garments that can be slipped off easily.
• Gloves to keep hands warm and to prevent
burning them on lines

Extra equipment if times permits shall be taken into the
survival craft such as:
• For protection (extra blankets, extra clothes etc.)
• For location ( torchlight, whistle, mirror etc.)
• Extra water, food ( can goods, etc)
• Extra medical supplies
• For navigation: the chart last used, sextants, etc.
• Additional medicines, fishing tackles may prove
useful

• Panic is the worst enemy of all concern.
• In a passenger ship where more people are
onboard, officer and ratings should prevent
panic among the passengers
• Ships personnel must act with authority
• They must calm down hysterical passengers
• They must be assured of safety

• Warning the passenger
• Seeing that they are suitably clad and have
donned their lifejackets correctly
• Assembling the passengers at the muster
stations
• Keeping order in the passageways on stairways
and generally controlling the movements of the
passengers

survival craft

Boarding of lifeboats and rafts can be done according
to 3 principles:

• By using the embarkation ladder rigged over the


ship’s side
• By boarding the lifeboat or raft directly in the
stowed position or by boarding after the boat or
raft has been lowered to the embarkation deck
• By embarkation using a special inflatable slide
(used specially in ferry boats)

Jump directly in to the water close toe the lifeboat or raft


and swim towards the boat/raft

• Jump from a position as close as possible to the water,
(not more than 20 ft.)
• Keep your feet together
• Block off nose and mouth
• Hold the lifejacket with your arms crossed over your
chest
• Check below for obstruction or any floating debris
• Jump feet first , looking ahead and parallel to the
horizon
• Do not jump into a lifeboat or on top of the canopy
