PRAISING ALLAH
All supplications in this section begin with the praise of Allah
الحمد هلل.
DUʻĀ 1 – 300+ ANGELS
Rifaʻāh Ibn Rafʻi (RA) narrates, “I prayed behind the Prophet ﷺand
sneezed. Then I said (the duʻā below). After prayer, the Prophet ﷺ
inquired about who spoke during ṣalāh. No one replied. He asked
again. No one replied. He asked a third time.
The Prophet ﷺasked, “What did you say?” I replied with (the duʻā
below). So the Prophet ﷺsaid, “By Allah, more than 300 angels
competed in recording these words.”

DUʻĀ 2 – PRAISE ON THE DAY OF UḤUD
Rifaʻāh Ibn Rafʻi (RA) narrates that on the day of the battle of Uḥud
when the polytheists of Quraish were fleeing the Prophet ﷺsaid, “Line
up so that I can praise my Lord”. So the companions formed a line
behind him. Then the Prophet ﷺmade the following duʻā:
ْ َ ْ َ َ َ َ
اللهم لك الحمد كله O Allah, all praise is
for You, in its entirety!
ʼAllāhumma la-kal ḥamdu kulluhū

DUʻĀ 1 – POVERTY AND SCARCITY
ʻĀbdullah Ibn Ūmar (RA) narrates, “One of the Prophet’s ﷺduʻās was
(the following duʻā).”
ʻĀishah (RA) narrates, “One night I woke up and didn't find the
Prophet ﷺin bed. So I prodded and searched for him until my hand
fell upon his upright feet while he (SAWS) was in sajdah in the masjid
(literally the next room). He was saying (the following duʻā).”

following duʻā).”

Abu Bakr (RA) narrates that the Prophet ﷺsaid, “O Abu Bakr, the šhirk
prevalent in you all is more hidden than the crawl of an ant.”
“Is there any šhirk besides worshiping other gods?” asked Abu Bakr.
14
Imam Aḥmad narrates that the Prophet ﷺsaid, “The thing I fear most for
you is the minor šhirk.” The companions asked, “What is the minor
šhirk?” The Prophet ﷺreplied, “Showing off.”
In light of this narration and Abu Bakr’s follow up question, the šhirk that
the Prophet ﷺseems to be referring to is showing off. As the Prophet ﷺ
alluded to it, it is extremely hard to detect – like the crawl of an ant. We
ask Allah’s protection from becoming full of ourselves through this duʻā.
Umm Salamah (RA) narrates that the Prophet always looked at the sky
and made this duʻā when leaving home.

Asmā Bint ʼUmays (RA) narrates that the Prophet ﷺtold her,

Āli (RA) narrates, "The Prophet ﷺtaught me that when I'm struck by
grief or sadness I should say (the following duʻā).”

DUʻĀ 3 – NEGATIVE PRESSURE FROM SOMEONE
Ābdullah Ibn Ābbas (RA) narrates that the Prophet ﷺwould make this
duʻā when things would get tough.

DUʻĀ 4 – ANNOYED?
Ābdullah Ibn Ābbas (RA) narrates that whenever the Prophet ﷺwould
be annoyed or bothered by something, he say:

DUʻĀ 5 – STRESSED OUT?
Anas Ibn Malik (RA) narrates, “Whenever a matter would distress him,
the Prophet would say (the following duʻā).”
FORGIVENESS
We all are in need of Allah’s forgiveness. The Prophet ﷺ, whose
sins were all forgiven, repeatedly and continually asked Allah to
forgive him. How much more diligent should we be?
Šhaddad Ibn Aws (RA) narrates that the Prophet ﷺsaid, “The chief of
duʻās for forgiveness is (the duʻā below).

have been forgiven previously?”

Only Allah is the true god, the Master of the great
throne. All praise is for Allah, the Master of the worlds.
DUʻĀ 3 – MY FLAWS
Uṯman Ibn Abi Al-Āas (RA) narrates that he heard the Messenger of
Allah ﷺmake the following duʻā:
َ َ ْ َ َ َ َ ْ َ
اللهم اغ ّفر ّلي ذن ّبي خط ّئي وعم ّدي اللهم ّإ ّني ْ ْ َ َ

DUʻĀ 4 – HAPPINESS IN THE HOME
Abu Hurairah (RA) narrates a man said to the Prophet ﷺ, “Oh Prophet,
I heard you making this duʻā last night.” The Prophet ﷺsaid, “Yes. Do
you see how comprehensive this duʻā is? Is there anything that this
duʻā leaves behind?!”
24
also means, "Make me content with what I have" and to not
long for what others have.”
I ASK YOU…
The supplications in this chapter all begin with “I ask you…”اسئلك.
What did the Prophet ﷺwant? Let’s find out through his supplications:
25
DUʻĀ 1 – THE COMPLETE
Abu Bakr (RA) entered the house of the Prophet ﷺ, wanting to talk to
him. ʻĀishah (RA) was praying. The Prophet ﷺsays to ʻĀishah, "You
should make the COMPLETE duʻā (")الكوامل.
When she left, Abu Bakr asked the Prophet about it. The Prophet said
the following duʻā:
ْ َ ْ َ َ َْ َ َ َ
اللهم ّإ ّني اسالك ّمن الخي ّر ك ّل ّه O Allah! Indeed I ask

DUʻĀ 2 – KNOWLEDGE, WEALTH, JANNAH
Umm Salamah (RA) narrates that the Prophet ﷺwould make this duʻā
after praying Fajr prayer.
ْ

Ābdullah Ibn Ābbas (RA) narrates that the Prophet ﷺused to make the
following duʻā:

This duʻā is fantastic for all as it asks for strength, clarity, control and
much more. Al-Mubarakpuri comments about this duʻā:
َ َ
“On the word " لكlaka (for You)": the sentence structure suggests
that these traits are exclusively for Allah’s sake. Moreover, it
shows the worshiper very sincerely wants to have these
beautiful traits.
ً َ
On the word " ا َواهاʼawwāhan": this is someone who says "Ahh" a
lot. This is either because of sadness or regret. In the case of
sadness, the implication is someone who is pained by seeing
injustice. In the case of regret, the implication is someone who
regrets their shortcomings. It could also mean someone who
cries out of fear of Allah. This is a characteristic of Ibrahim (AS),
as mentioned in the Qur’an (11:74).
ْ
ْ َوwaslul": this word is used to describe
On the word "اسلل
unsheathing a sword. The implication is to completely remove
these damaging thoughts from my heart.”
31
DUʻĀ 4 – THE BEST
Anas Ibn Mālik (RA) narrates, “The most frequent duʻā of the Prophet
ﷺwas (the following duʻā)”.
Anas Ibn Mālik (RA) also narrates that the Prophet ﷺvisited a Muslim
who had grown feeble like the chicken to inquire about his health.
Upon seeing his condition, the Prophet ﷺsaid, “Did you supplicate for
this condition?”
The Prophet ﷺsaid, “Glory is for Allah! You cannot handle this. Why
did you not say instead (the aforementioned duʻā)?”
Then the Prophet ﷺmade duʻā for the man and he was cured.
32
DUʻĀ 5 – MY HEART
Anas Ibn Mālik (RA) narrates, “The Prophet ﷺfrequently used to make
(the following duʻā). So I asked him, “Oh Messenger of Allah !ﷺWe
have believed in you and in the revelation that you have brought. Do
you fear for us? For our imān? For our safety in the next life?”
He said, “Yes. That is because the hearts are between two of Allah’s
fingers. He turns them as He wishes.”
