Kimani Maruge was born in Kenya in 1919, 1920 or 1921. Kimani’s dad was a cowherd.
There were no free schools, so Kimani wasn’t at school. He was a cowherd with his dad.
He was a cowherd all his life. He was sad when the animals were sick. In 2003 there was a
new law in Kenya. There was free education for everyone. Kimani was about 84 years old!
In 2004 Kimani was in the record books – he was the oldest primary pupil in the world! He
was in Class 1 with his grandchildren, and he was a good pupil. In 2005, Kimani was at
the United Nations in the United States. There were lots of reporters.
