GENERAL COMMENTS ON ESQUISSE 2

A. FLOOR PLAN
1. Try to see things from out of the box. Don’t stick to traditional plans na naka
hilera ang mga computer tables parang sa computer shop. Integrate social
distancing considerations. But consider the placement of cables and electrical
wirings for computers.

2. Make every space useful. There is no Zumba or ballroom dancing here.

3. Make sure there is enough distance between (a) back of chair and wall, especially
when moving the chair to sit down and (b) between back of chairs. There must
be sufficient clearance for users to pass through between chairs and between
chairs and walls.

4. Users should be able to directly enter or exit any space/room. Avoid locating
room B where you have to pass through room A first to get to room B.
Exceptions are personal spaces like toilets in a private office.

5. Consider scale between shelves and number of users. If there are only 10 users
for a particular space, how big is the library and how big is their collection of
books, etc.? Identify the purpose of the shelves (books, maps/globe, toys/games,
etc).

6. Indicate clearances.

7. Floor finish may be indicated on a corner of the room only and not necessary for
the whole floor.

8. Identify all spaces in floor plan.

9. Consider location of mechanical equipment.

10. Be consistent with unit of measure. If space programming has METER/SQUARE

METER as unit of measure, use METER in floor plan.

11. If you plan for an open space, make sure unrelated spaces have boundaries
(cabinets or low partitions or change in floor levels).

12. If you include a toilet for each room, plan for efficient plumbing layout. Plan for
both water closet and lavatory.

13. Complete dimensions and labelling of spaces are necessary for floor plans.
14. REMINDER: METER is abbreviated as M, not MTS.

B. SPACE PROGRAMMING

1. Bookshelves occupy space for themselves, not for users. Identify distance
between them if they are placed parallel to each other.

2. Consider size of materials if shelves are custom-made. (They are probably made
from plywood or plyboard which measures 1.2M x 2.4M.)

3. Mind your multiplication and/or addition.

4. Make sure that the Total Floor area in your Space Programming matches that of
the area in Floor Plan, give or take 10%.

C. TIP
1. Use templates when planning furniture placement. Cut scaled furniture sizes
on paper or cardboard and use them on similarly-scaled floor plan.
Templates can be used to study different furniture placement within the
room.
