REDUCED FABRICATION COSTS As a single fitting, only one weld is required to complete the Promat contoured bodied flanged branch connection. ‘This eliminates the need for one, possibly two, extra welds and so reduces the welding time and associated labour, material and N.D-T. inspection costs. INCREASED STRENGTH AND SAFETY ‘Manufactured from close tolerance forgings, Promat fittings offer substantial advantages over conventional assemblies. As the number of welds are reduced, Promat fittings significantly increase the overall strength and safety of the branch connection, one of the most vulnerable points in piping networks. IMPROVED INTEGRITY ‘The single, close-tolerance forgings provide a uniform grain flow which increases the inherent integrity of the fitting and overall integrity of the branch connection. PRODUCTION AND TESTING Promat fittings have been developed by experienced piping engineers using the latest computer-aided design facilities. This combination of practical experience and high technology has produced a range of fittings which ‘will withstand the pressure, vibration, erosion, corrosion and fatigue induced stresses which occur in, piping systems. In addition, Promat fittings are easier to install than conventional assemblies, and therefore save on tallation costs. The design and manufacture of Promat contoured bodied flanged branch fittings affords optimised use of labour and equipment required for the fitting’s installation and avoids the need to employ sp equipment for alignment ete. ‘The base of each fitting can be profiled du manufacture to match the run pipe diameter specified by the purchaser and therefore is self aligning on the run pipe thereby avoiding the need for site adjustments (figure 1). Refer to note (3) ordering information. ig (tT It should be noted that in accordance with ———— normal practice flange bolt holes are drilled two holes square as standard. When installing a Promat contoured bodied flanged branch fitting the fitting itself can be used to determine the opening to be made in the run pipe. This is achieved by positioning the fitting on the run pipe and marking around the fitting base. The fitting landing edge (figure 2) should then be deducted and the opening in the run pipe can be made by burning or drilling as site procedures and restrictions dictate. NOT Every “Promat” fitting is shaped to fit the pipe and is self-aligning. “Longitudinal Section”, wide base at crotch section distributes internal and external stresses. Gradual changes of section eliminates stress concentrations. Cone shaped opening gives improved flow conditions. “Transverse Section”, note the blending of the welding end to the run pipe to avoid sudden change in the intersection. The throat of the weld at this point is designated by the weld end bevel. To prepare the fitting for welding the fitting is positioned over the hole cut in the run pipe and the weld gap set, as dictated by the weld procedure being used. The fitting can then be mechanically fixed in position by means of tack welds and the weld gap spacers removed. Using a weld procedure approved for the application, the fittin; is then fully welded out, Firstly the root weld is formed followed by the deposition of weld metal forming the body of the weld (filler weld). On completion of filler weld beads the weld is capped to achieve the desired weld profile. The profile of the weld should present a smooth transition between fitting and run pipe thereby eliminating high stress points which are undesirable. ‘The installation of the fitting is now complete and the assembly ready for NDT and testing as required. ® PROMAT ORDERING INFORMATION TO PROMAT.
