Being vegan comes with an array of challenges. One of them
is having to deal with family, friends, and everyday non-
vegans who constantly seek to corner you into admitting
that you’re making the wrong choice. Many of them gain
pleasure from seeing you concede and from proving to you
that you don’t fully understand what you’re doing. We
have written this book for you to deny them that pleasure.
We want you to represent veganism with confidence and we
want you to have all the answers. So, this self-defense
guide will give you the info you need. You can refer to it
when you’re unsure or when someone challenges you online.
Remember to deliver the answers with confidence and
watch them stutter with their broken answers!

Vegans are low

on iron!

Vegans get their Iron from a delicious range of

sources, such as: Cashews (and other nuts),
Pumpkin Seeds (and other seeds), Spinach (and
other dark, green leafy vegetables), tomato
paste, tempeh, tofu, quinoa, spirulina, Apricots
(and other dried fruits), blackstrap molasses, dark
chocolate, kidney beans (and other beans),
lentils, and more. Sounds a hundred times more
appetizing than a boring steak.

But animals eat

animals!

Firstly, carnivorous animals have different digestive

tracts than us, designed purely for digesting flesh.
Carnivores also eat raw meat. They can survive from
eating raw flesh and instinctively have no problem killing
other animals. Humans aren’t naturally carnivores. Our
digestive systems are not built for passing meat through
them. And if we were to ever eat uncooked meat, we’d
get sick and potentially die. Besides, just because other
animals do it, doesn’t mean it’s right. Other animals sniff
each other’s butts, rape, and steal babies from their
mothers. Not the best examples to follow.
3

My friend tried
a vegan diet and
got sick!

Your friend didn’t get sick because he or she tried

a vegan diet. People get sick on pescatarian
diets, paleo diets, and meat-eating diets.
Regardless of what diet you’re on, if you eat
unhealthy, you’ll eventually get sick. A vegan diet
is no exception. A plant-based eating regimen is
much healthier -- but just like any other diet, if
you eat junk, you’ll feel like junk!
4

Plants have
feelings too!

Plants do not have a central nervous system, making it

impossible for them to feel pain, think thoughts, or consciously
respond to anything. Yes, some plants may move in a way that
enables them to capture prey or respond to certain attacks, but
if you believe in science then you’d understand that none of
that happens on a conscious level. In fact, if they cared so much
about plants, they’d stop eating meat, effective this minute.
The meat industry destroys a hundredfold more plants than the
entire world population combined. If your friend and every plant
loving person in this world stopped eating meat, those plants
they are so concerned about would be much better off.

Chickens don’t
care if we take
their eggs!

Have you asked chickens how they feel about the taking
of their eggs? Imagine if you spent all your time waiting for
your baby to be born, and as soon as it is, having someone
steal it off you. It sucks for chickens like it'd suck for you. Do
you think the chickens would not rather live a normal and
stress-free life? Do you think they enjoy having their beaks
cut off and residing in condensed cages with other chickens,
barely being able to open their wings, while the chickens
beside them die by the hour? Based on that, I’m pretty
sure chickens would rather we just left them and their
eggs alone.
6

Humans are on
top of the food
chain!

Claiming we are top of the food chain is like a bank

robber claiming he or she is on the top of the
corporate ladder. Besides, being on top of the food
chain doesn’t mean we can do whatever we want
with the lives of other animals. It doesn’t give us a
green light to be cruel to, steal from, and exploit
other animals. With great power comes great
responsibility.
7

Eating meat is
my personal
choice!

Killing babies is a personal choice. Robbing a jewelry shop is

a personal choice. Torturing others is a personal choice. But
none of them are ethical, moral, or legal (and thank God
for that!). Sure, it’s your personal choice to eat animals,
but is it an ethical choice? Probably not. Most reasonable
people would agree that one’s right to choose ends at
harm being inflicted on others. So, yes, for now, it is your
personal choice. But in reality, we all know it shouldn’t be.
8

Vegans are too

extreme!

If you think vegans are extreme, you should look at what

you’re eating. Look into how the milk that you had in your
morning coffee was produced. Look at the high levels of
cholesterol in the eggs that you eat. Or how about the
higher risk of cancer that morning bacon puts you at. But,
let’s forget for a minute about health. Eating meat is the
number one cause of global warming. Eating meat involves
the slaughter, rape, and exploitation of billions of animals
per annum. Eating meat, wearing leather, sipping on milk,
fishing or scrambling eggs, etc. involves suffering and ending
another sentient being’s life. And it's destroying our
ecosystem, as well as giving us various other diseases (like
cancer). Yet, vegans are extreme for not wanting to take
part in all that. You're right, vegans are extreme.
Extremely passionate, forward-thinking, and unselfish.

I only buy cage-

free eggs!

95% of the time, the only thing that differentiates

between organic/free-range/cage-free eggs and
caged eggs is that the hens are not in a cage. Here’s
the loophole: Instead, they will confine the chickens to
a crowded shed. Just as sufferable, just as cruel, and
just as uncomfortable for the chickens. Purchasing
cage-free or free-range eggs still supports the cruel
exploitation of innocent hens, and regardless of
whether it’s cage-free, free-range or caged -- they all
get sent to slaughter when they no longer meet the
egg-laying quota. There’s no escaping the death
squad that is the egg industry.
10

Cows need to be
milked anyway. It’s
good for them!

The most vicious industry in the world is the dairy industry.

Dairy cows are force-bred to produce milk. You could call it
rape, but for some people, it is too much too early on (even
though shock tactics have also been known to work for
some; depends on your personality). Upon giving birth to
their baby calf, calves are taken against the mother’s will. If
the calf is a female, she will be raised exclusively for dairy
production. If the calf happens to be born a male, he will be
sent to be slaughtered for 'veal'. What's worse, a cow's
natural lifespan is about twenty years, and she can easily
produce milk for eight of those years. But the constant
breeding, disease, infections, and stress of dairy farm life
wears her out by the time she is five years old. At which
time she is slaughtered just like every other cow. So really,
the dairy industry represents rape in every sense of the
word. The cows are physically and morally raped -- along
with their dignity.
11

Where do you get

your Protein?

[This should be your favorite question because it’s the

easiest to answer.] Believe it or not, most people
consume more protein than they need. We have been
brainwashed by innovative marketing into consuming
too much of everything -- including protein. Us vegans
get our protein from a variety of sources: Beans, lentils,
chickpeas, tofu, nuts, grains, peas, broccoli, seeds, and
more. And, contrary to some popular beliefs, vegans get
just as much, if not more, protein than meat-eaters. So
when people ask how you get your protein, tell them
the same way Gorillas, Elephants, and rhinos do. Ya
know, the biggest land mammals on the planet.

Wool is just sheep

getting a haircut.
they need it!

Here’s a fact you’re not going to believe: sheep hate being

sheared. Here's why: The media and society depict the wool
industry as harmless. They make it seem like we’re giving
those lucky sheep a Hollywood haircut. But the pain sheep
have to endure is beyond intense. The act of shearing deeply
wounds the sheep by viciously cutting their skin and causing
infection. In most cases, the infection is unattended, to which
it can attract a variety of parasites and pests. To combat
this, they remove the skin, without anesthetics, in order to
create a scarred area of flesh to avoid further infestation.
The pain they put the sheep through is unbearable, and if
you’re against cruelty, the wool industry should be one of
the first to go.
13

Vegans are low on

Vitamin B12!

Yes, B12 can be a little tricky. Though, with an

appropriate diet and better understanding, vegans can
consume as much B12 as meat eaters -- if not more. B12 is
created by bacteria in soil, fermented plant matter,
dead flesh, and the guts of animals. Funny enough,
most non-vegan Americans are deficient in B12 because
their B12 is burned away during the cooking process.
Vegans supplement their B12 through some plant milks,
soy products, and some breakfast cereals. If any of the
former don’t appeal to you, then you can settle for one
or two B12 pills a week -- which is nothing.
14

Our early
ancestors ate
meat!

Are you a cat lover? Well, here’s an interesting fact: your

ancestors used to burn cats for fun, as entertainment. But
wait, there’s much, much more: our ancestors also owned
slaves, raped women, bathed once a month (at best)
because they thought water was unhealthy (they also
referred to hair lice as the pearls of God- #cringe), used rocks
as toilet paper, married 12-year-old girls, and persecuted
religious minorities. So, it’s probably best we don’t follow
their example. We have thankfully evolved from these
atrocious acts and it would be nice to think that ending the
suffering of animals is part of that evolution into becoming a
better species.
15

Veganism is
unhealthy for
kids!

The question here isn’t whether veganism is

healthy or not for kids. The question is whether
you feed your kids a healthy diet -- regardless of
what they eat. Children who are raised on a
vegan diet are far less likely to become obese or
suffer from allergies, diabetes, and many other
ailments. As long as they're fed a nutritionally
balanced diet, they will not only grow up
healthy -- but they'll thrive!
16

If you were
stranded on a
deserted island,
you’d eat meat!

This is such a ridiculous hypothetical. If, by chance,

you were somehow stranded on a deserted
island with no access to plants and you were
among animals who seemed to have miraculously
survived without water or vegetation of any
sort,  I’d advise you close your eyes, visualize a
giant bowl of lentils, a pot of gold, and an island
water park -- and it would appear out of thin air.
You know why? Because that is more likely to
happen than you being stranded in the first
place.
17

My religion says
it’s ok to eat
meat!

While most religions permit their followers to eat meat,

it's not a requirement. There’s no religion that tells you
it’s bad to follow a plant-based regimen. Most religions
preach compassion, respect, and a love for ALL living
beings. If you truly follow your religion then you’d show
compassion by not taking part in the murderous actions
of the meat industry. Most religions will also insist you
treat your body as a temple. Eating meat puts you at
risk of... so many things. If you truly followed your
religion, you’d understand that and avoid eating foods
that compromise your health and your moral values.
18

It’s just honey!

Honey seems to be the one issue new vegans seem to overlook. I mean,
they are just insects, right? Well, not quite. Bees are some of the most
intelligent and sophisticated creatures on earth. Yes, they are insects,
but, believe it or not, they know exactly what they're doing and can
experience pain like every other animal. There are 3 reasons you should
not consume honey: 1) It’s not ours to take. It’s their food and they
worked hard for it. They spend their entire lives working their butts off
to make it. Imagine you it took you 20 years to create the most amazing
work of art, and then one day, just like that, someone broke into your
house and stole it. Essentially, that's what we do to bees. 2) Queen bees
are raped by beekeepers by being artificially impregnated. That's after
they have had their wings clipped so they don't fly away. 3) The bee
population is rapidly declining due to the carelessness of
the honey industry. If all bees (and ants) go extinct, so do humans.
And I'm not being dramatic. If they go humans will cease to exist.
Look it up if you don't believe me!
19

Going vegan is
too hard!

Going vegan only seems hard because you’re not used to it.
You have been accustomed to a certain way your whole life
and, being a human, you’re resistant to change. We get it. But
don’t blame it on veganism. Blame it on you being human and
having to adjust your ways. Veganism is not only easy, it’s a
lot easier than a normal lifestyle/diet. Firstly, your food hardly
ever goes off. The food is not heavy. You’re 10x less likely to
endure food poisoning. It can be super cheap and yes, it’s
healthier. As long as you have an open mind and do your
research, transitioning into a vegan lifestyle could be the
easiest (and most rewarding) thing you've ever done.
20

Eating animals is
healthy!

Wrong. Many studies have confirmed that there is a

strong correlation between eating meat and all of the
'popular' diseases in western countries. In fact, WHO
(The World Health Organization), has confirmed that
eating meat increases a person’s risk of getting cancer
by over 30%. Statistically, vegans have longer life
spans, lower exposure to diabetes, heart disease
and many other life-threatening ailments.
21

Soy milk is full

of estrogen!

Soya contains exactly ZERO estrogen. And there is no evidence

that it disrupts sexual development in humans. (*Interestingly
enough, cow’s milk actually contains plenty of actual
mammalian estrogen, which is the kind of estrogen that can
cause sexual development in humans.) Farmers feed ‘their
animals’ soy, so when you eat meat you’re getting recycled
soy whether you like it or not. And since Americans currently
spend billions of dollars yearly on breast augmentation
surgeries, if soy was any good at enlarging breasts,
there’d be lines down the block of people begging
for it.
22

My canine teeth
make me a meat
eater!

Let’s be real for a minute. If we didn’t cook our meat and use
silverware to cut it into small chunks, we’d fail miserably at
biting through the raw flesh of an animal. You see, unlike
carnivores who tear their prey’s flesh using their cuspids (sharp
vampire teeth), we rely on our flattened back teeth (or molars)
for side by side grinding, most commonly executed by
frugivores. Carnivores can only move their jaws up and down.
Frugivores and herbivores grind their food sideways.
