I’m sure you already do, but talking to him in a gentle and calm manner, and showing that you care about him really
helps. I’m not sure if you will end up getting a draft from him despite all your efforts, but there’s definitely no harm in
trying. He’s a tough student to deal with, even for myself and many other teachers, so I hope his attitude doesn’t let
you down or anything!
Hi Nhan
I'm hoping to speak to Tom Siggs tomorrow (Friday) in Care Group. I have your Mitchell class for Physical Education
and I want to have a chat to Tom in relation to his upcoming task.
He hasn't been engaged with the content much this term, generally distracted, off-task and not completing formative
tasks. I first thought it was that he didn't understand, but in conversations with Jade and from reading his notes on
Scholaris, it looks more like a behaviour/attitude towards school issue.
During class today, after struggling to get anything out of him, I offered for him to present the task in a different way -
but I've been informed that he's very capable of the original task - despite doing very little. I would like to let him
know that I am aware he is a capable student, so I will have the same expectations for him, as I do with the others. No
modifications. I'll be expecting a draft ready for Monday's class. I may remind him that he needs to be taking his
academics seriously so he can come off probation for academy.
Please let me know if it's okay for me to see Tom in CG, and if you have any suggestions on the best way to approach
the situation/conversation.
Thanks,
1
