Learning Intentions:
Students will be able to successfully pitch a
softball
As a result of actively engaging in this lesson
students will

Know where to pitch a softball
5 mins Warm up
Bowitgee – Played by the Indigenous population from the Norther Territory
Students are to pass the Bowitgee (ball) among each other while moving
with the ball. Group counts number of passes over 60 seconds
10 minutes Activity
- Students to get into pairs
- Grab a mitt each
- Grab a ball between each pair
- Stand on a cone
- Practice throwing and catching (chest balls, fly balls, roll balls)
Introduction to pitching
5 minutes Pitching cues – Facing batter, stepping with opposite foot, releasing ball in
the direction of the target, underarm, aiming between the catcher’s arm pits
and knees
Student to get into pairs and practice pitching on the same cones as the last
20 minutes activity
Closure –
5 minutes Recap of key cues of pitching
