Terminology
Mallet:
Each player uses a mallet.
Only the striking (end) face
may be used to strike a ball
Court:
A backyard croquet court
doesn't have to be a perfectly
manicured lawn, but short
grass provides the best
playing surface. If you have
room, the official full-size
court is a rectangle, 100 feet
long by 50 feet wide. For
backyard play you can adjust
the size and shape of the court
to fit the available space. Use
string or chalk to mark
definite boundaries if you
choose, or just mark the
corners with flags or stakes.
Activity 2 / gameplay
Rules
- Objective of the game
is to get the ball
through all 14
wickets, and around 2
stakes.
- 1 drive per turn
- For every wicket you
go through you get an
extra drive.
- If your ball makes
contact with another
you may put yours
next to it, step on
your ball, and strike
your ball so that the
force distributes to
the opponents ball.
- When you cross 7
wickets you will be
faced with a stake
- You must knock first
stake down
- After another 7
following the course
there will be another
wicket
- If you knock this one
down you will be out
- If you get through
you are now poison
- No matter what
poison players have 1
drive per turn. If a
poison ball hits
another ball, that
player is out.
- Play until all students
are finished, or one is
remaining
