Lesson Plan Format

Teacher’s Name: Colby Lindseth Course: PhysEd

Topic: Structured Games Length of Class: 36 Minutes
Curricular Outcomes Grade 6: Using structure to bring organization to physical activ-
ity. Using movement patterns to improve performance. Use risk in play to see how it in-
fluences the outcome of an action. Materials: Pylons, Pinnies, Bean Bags
Objectives:
At the end of the lesson students will be able to:
1) Apply structure in the creation and playing of games
2) Use strategies and tactics to display in gameplay.
3) Development movement patterns to use in performance
4) Demonstrate how movement patterns can be used in a variety of sports
5) Understand the possible outcomes in risk taking decisions. (Crossing the line
allowing them to be vulnerable and be tagged)

- Students will line up and sit on the black line. Here I will explain what we will be doing today:
Warm up game (rock, paper, scissor relay), Squirrel Tag, and Gold rush.
- I will then demonstrate warm up game, rock, paper, scissor relay. Going over the rules and
movements, expected out of them.
Activities Time Allowed

- Then I will split 6L and 6W to each side of the gym, have Mr. - 5 Minutes
Leger, or Mr. Weitz split 6W into two teams, and I will split 6L
into two teams. When I say go, students will begin the game.
May play 1-3 rounds depending on time.
- Rules: Students will start am each side of the gym. Students will
follow the route marked by pylons, first running, second round,
skipping, third round, galloping. When two students meet from
the opposite teams, they will play rock paper scissors. Whoever
loses exits the route, then the next player from the line will run.
First team to get to the other teams side wins.

- Once warm up game is complete have students stay where they - 10-15 Minutes
are, quickly explain the rules of squirrel tag, have them stay in
their own teams. Once I yell go students will start playing squir-
rel tag. Once the first game is complete use the whole gym to
have a big game of squirrel tag. 6L vs 6W. Once this is complete
have one final game of squirrel tag, a big free for all.
- Rules for squirrel tag: students have pinny tucked into the back
of their shorts. Once the pinny is pulled out they are out.

- If time is allowed, play one final game. Tell students to split

back into 6L and 6W. Explain rules of goldrush (I believe it is a - 10-15 Minutes
game they have played before so they should have an idea).
Once rules of the game are established and remembered, have
the students start playing. Stop partway through to explain hey,
maybe use some strategies or what ways can people make this
easier. Continue to play until time is up and it is time to clean
up.
- Rules of Gold Rush: Students split into two teams 6W vs 6L,
split into the two parts of the gym separated by the centre of bas-
ketball line. The other side of the court is “enemy” territory, thus
meaning students can be tagged , if tagged thy will sit down.
Students goal is to get the bean bags that are in the key of the
basketball court. That is the safe space, students cannot be
tagged. Students who got tagged and are sitting down, can be
tagged back by their teammates and get a free walk back.
- Talk about curricular concepts.
Assessment: Assess students on their movement patterns, running, shuffling, pivot, dodg-
ing movement. Assess their abilities to creatively come up with strategies and tactics. As-
sess their ability to see if they followed the structured rules of the gameplay. At the end
of the class we will also have a debrief with the students. Ask what they learned, what
went well.
