Teams?”

Today we are going to:

 Start with team warm-ups, then we are going to compete in
playoffs for the CCHS World Cup.

Any Questions?

Before we go let’s  Review Safety/expectations

activity.

Body:
2min Learning Activity 1: Warm-up  Team Warm-ups

What’s the point of a warm-up  to get warm – to get blood

circulating through your muscles so your body is ready for
activity.

 When I say go, I want captains to run their team through their
own warm-up.
 Suggestions: high-knees, shuffles, karaoke, stretch.

Transition
“When I say go, I want:
1) Captains to find out where their team is playing, 2) Wait on
your court.”

15min Learning Activity 1: World Cup of Soccer Playoffs Discussion about

Rules if not

Losers to the third-place matchup.

Equipment:

 1 soccer ball for each field.

Rules:
 Teams will play 2, 8 minute games.
 Each team will have a goalie.
 The goalie can catch the ball, roll it, drop kick, or kick it
off the ground. If the ball goes behind the goalie, it is
goalie ball. No corner kicks. The goalies crease is
designated by the blue basketball key.
 Boundaries will apply, so there will be throw-ins/free
kicks. If the ball sneaks through the corner, the team who
did not kick it last can have a free kick or a throw-in.
Defender must give them room.
 If there is a handball, the ball will be turned over to the
team who did not commit the handball.
 For today, teams must pass at least 3 times before
shooting.
 If there is a fifth team, they will referee the games. If not,
extra players (subs) from teams who are playing will
referee the games.
 If a penalty is committed (pushing, tripping, kicking shins
on purpose), students will get a penalty shot.
After Games, the team manager is responsible for saying who
won, where/who they are playing next, and if they achieved their
step goal.

Transition

 When I say go Return balls/pylons.
 2 Whistles  everyone stops and comes to me.

CELEBRATE CLASS/INDIVIDUAL VICTORIES

Stage 4: Reflection
1. How the students responded to the lesson as planned and taught:
 Students really enjoyed this lesson, however, it was noticeable as time was running out
for the tournament, students were getting more competitive and had a harder time
focusing. Students are really enjoying the World Cup Experience.
 Unable to get to closing ceremonies.
2. Specific strengths of the lesson plan and delivery:
 Instructions were clear and concise.
 Used various methods to gain attention when they weren’t listening.
 Praised individual efforts.
 Whistle was loud.
 Students helped set up the board.
 Assessed from the centre line wall of gym.

3. Specific weaknesses in the lesson plan and delivery:

 Recall was slow. Only opened with the Team Canada Topic once.
 Difficulty getting students attention.
 Ended class later to get max. playing time/students not listening.
 One students was having a hard time, needed to talk.

4. What must be addressed to improve this plan?

 Tues/Thurs. classes are short. The 2 games would have been best to make sure the
class didn’t feel rushed.
 Ensure step counters are reset and have them show you how many steps they got to
ensure no one is cheating.

5. How I have grown from this teaching experience:

 Lesson plans change, adapting to them is really important. Sometimes using the first
class to gauge how much and what you will be able to fit into a lesson is a good pre-
run for the rest of the day. You can change what you don’t like to hopefully improve
the quality of the lesson.
