Stage 1: Desired Results


Lesson The purpose of this lesson is to give students the opportunity to experiment with
Overview: a variety of sports and games to promote activities and enhance physical
literacy. Students will a variety of options they can choose from, and we will
vote as a class on which activities we will conduct.

variety of activities from all movement dimensions

Learning Students will: (BPM)


Objectives  Demonstrate (B) locomotor skills in a safe manner (P) based on their choice
of game (M).
 Select (B) games that reflect their abilities and physical literacy (P) through
one the games below (M).
 Perform (B) various locomotor skills in a variety of game while being
spatially aware on oneself, objects, and others (P) while playing one of the
games below (M).

Introduction:
7min Review of Previous Concepts/New Learning:

After changing, students can begin their warm-up:


 3 laps
 5 v-crunches
 5 push-ups

Today we are going to:


1. Get changed (GYM STRIP)
2. Warm-up
3. Meet at whiteboard/take a seat
4. Self-Assessment
5. Student Choice Friday

Notes:
 Students will complete a brief self-assessment before
playing based on their progress in handball.

Transition
Students can remain seated as I explain the activity we will
engage in.

Body:
15min Learning Activity 1: Dutch Baseball

 There are 2 teams.


 1 team is defense spread out in the gym.
 The other team is kicking and starts behind the green line.
 After the kick, the student has to run across the green line
across the gym to be safe.
 If they make it back to the beginning where they kicked
without getting hit, they receive 1 point.
 If they are hit with the ball, or if the ball is caught, the
defensive team drops the ball and runs to the wall to be
safe.
 The other team runs to get the ball. If they hit someone on
the other team before they all get to the wall, they switch
rolls until one full team successfully makes it to the wall
(safe zone) without getting struck by the dodgeball.
 Whoever is safe starts kicking, or continues to kick.

Transition
 1 Whistle = Stop/Take a Knee/Hold your ball/Listen.
 2 Whistles = gather around Mr. C.

min Learning Activity 2: Student Choice Friday


 We will have a volleyball net set up,
 Badminton nets, as well as basketball.
 Students will have the choice of what to play for the last
15 minutes of class.
 This will be used as a way to encourage a positive setting
where students can try different activities.

Transition
 1 Whistle = Stop/Take a Knee/Hold your ball/Listen.
 2 Whistles = gather around Mr. C.

Learning Activity 3: Dodgeball

Regular
 Divide students into 2 teams.
 If students get hit, they will be sent to jail.
 For students to get out of jail, a team member must
catch a ball thrown by the other team, if jailbreak is
called, or if they hit the backboard.
 The team who loses all of their players first, loses.

Free for ALL


 Everyone for themselves.
 If you get hit you sit down.
 If the person who hit you gets hit, everyone that that
person hit is back in the play.
 If I catch a ball, the person who threw it is out.

Transition
 1 Whistle = Stop/Take a Knee/Hold your ball/Listen.
 2 Whistles = gather around Mr. C.

Have students return balls/equipment!
