A civilization is a complex human society, usually
made up of different cities, with certain
characteristics of cultural and technological
development.
The word “civilization” relates to the Latin word
“civitas” or “city.”
These include:
• large population centers;
• monumental architecture and unique art styles;
• shared communication strategies;
• systems for administering territories;
• a complex division of labor; and
• the division of people into social and economic
classes.
