Healing and/or Blessing:
The laying on of hands was
not just for ordination,
but also for healing and/or
blessing. Matthew 19:13-15
tells us, ”Then little children
were brought to Jesus for him
to place his hands on them
and pray for them. But the
disciples rebuked those who
brought them. Jesus said, ‘Let
the little children come to me,
and do not hinder them, for
the kingdom of heaven belongs
to such as these.’ When he
had placed his hands on
them, he went on from there.”
[Emphasis mine]
This particular reference
doesn’t say if Jesus placed
his hands on them for
blessing or healing, but we
know Jesus did both. A
clear passage that refers
to blessing is Mark 10:16,
“And he took the children
in his arms, put his hands
on them and blessed them.”

time referring to healing, is

Mark 5:23. “…and pleaded
earnestly with him, ‘My little
daughter is dying. Please come
and put your hands on her so
that she will be healed and
live.’ So Jesus went with him.”
Although Jesus healed
in many ways other than
through the laying on of
hands, many New Testament
Gospel references connect
the laying on of hands to the
ministry of healing. Luke
4:40, “When the sun was
setting, the people brought
to Jesus all who had various
kinds of sickness, and laying
his hands on each one, he
healed them.” See also Mark
6:5, 8:23-25, Luke 13:13-14.
The disciples were also to
follow the example of Jesus
and lay their hands upon
the sick for healing. “…they
will place their hands on sick
people, and they will get well.”
(Mark 16:18c)
Paul followed the practice
of laying on of hands for
healing, as in Acts 28:8.
“His father was sick in bed,
suffering from fever and
dysentery. Paul went in to see
him and, after prayer, placed
his hands on him and healed
him. When this had happened,
the rest of the sick on the
island came and were cured.”
Paul not only ministered
healing, but also received
healing through the laying
on of hands. “Then Ananias
went to the house and entered
it. Placing his hands on Saul,
he said, ‘Brother Saul, the
Lord----Jesus, who appeared
to you on the road as you were
coming here----has sent me so
that you may see again and
be filled with the Holy Spirit.’
Immediately, something like
scales fell from Saul’s eyes, and
he could see again. He got up
and was baptized, and after
taking some food, he regained
his strength.” (Acts 9:17-19)
Although it isn’t expressly
stated, this passage seems
to imply that Paul not only
received healing but the
infilling of the Holy Spirit
when Ananias laid hands on
him.
Impartation: Another
aspect of the doctrine of
“laying on of hands” is in
connection to impartation.
The impartations we see
in the Bible were both for
gifts of the Spirit and for
being filled or baptized
with the Holy Spirit. I can’t
emphasize enough, laying
on of hands is only one way
to receive impartation, the
other being waiting on God
through prayer.
Luke is the historian of the
Holy Spirit. His Gospel of
Luke and record of Acts
is history written with
theological significance and
considerations. He recounts
in Acts 2:1-4 where people
are filled with the Holy
Spirit without the mention
of the “laying on of hands.”
Acts 2:1-4 “When the day
of Pentecost came, they were
all together in one place.
Suddenly a sound like the

blowing of a violent wind came
from heaven and filled the
whole house where they were
sitting. They saw what seemed
to be tongues of fire that
separated and came to rest
on each of them. All of them
were filled with the Holy Spirit
and began to speak in other
tongues as the Spirit enabled
them.” See also 4:29-31 and
10:44-47.
According to John 20:21 and
22, the disciples received
the Holy Spirit when Jesus
breathed upon them on the
evening of the day of His
resurrection. Therefore,
the Day of Pentecost wasn’t
when they first received
the Holy Spirit, but the day
they were “filled with the
Holy Spirit.” John 20:21-22.
Again Jesus said, “Peace be
with you! As the Father has
sent me, I am sending you.”
And with that he breathed
on them and said, “Receive
the Holy Spirit.” In Acts 2 and
4, the Holy Spirit came upon
believers who were looking
to God for enabling power.
As Peter preached for the
first time to Gentiles in Acts
10, “the Holy Spirit came on
all who heard the message”
even as they were being
saved through the message.
More pertinent to our topic,
however, are Luke’s accounts
of where the Holy Spirit
or gifts of the Spirit were
imparted with the laying on
of hands. In Acts 8:14-17

we read about the revival in
Samaria. “When the apostles
in Jerusalem heard that
Samaria had accepted the
word of God, they sent Peter
and John to them. When
they arrived, they prayed for of the Holy Spirit happens

the Holy Spirit, because the
Holy Spirit had not yet come
upon any of them; they had

Apparently, the giving
of the Holy Spirit was
accompanied by some visible
manifestation because Luke

verses 18 and 19. “When
Simon saw that the Spirit was
given at the laying on of the
apostle’s hands, he offered
them money and said, ‘Give
me also this ability so that
everyone on whom I lay my
hands may receive the Holy
Spirit.’”
The second passage in
Luke’s theological-historical
account is found in Acts
19:6 where Paul, rather than
Peter and John, places his
hands upon newly baptized
believers in Ephesus. “When
Paul placed his hands on
them, the Holy Spirit came
on them, and they spoke in
tongues and prophesied. There as an apostle. At the end of

is for the impartation of
some spiritual gift to the
Christians at Rome. “I
long to see you so that I may
impart to you some spiritual
gift to make you strong----that
is, that you and I may be
mutually encouraged by each
other’s faith.”
The activity of the Holy
Spirit was vital to Paul’s
understanding of his role

proclamation of the word
and the empowerment
of the Spirit. He states
in Romans 15:17-19,
“Therefore I glory in Christ
Jesus in my service to God. I
will not venture to speak of
anything except what Christ
has accomplished through
me in leading the Gentiles to
obey God by what I have said
and done----by the power of
signs and miracles, through
the power of the Spirit. So
from Jerusalem all the way
around to Illyricum, I have
fully proclaimed the gospel of
Christ.”
In this passage, Paul seems
to understand that the
effectiveness of his ministry
was not simply the result of
what he preached, but what
he did as well – the “power
of signs and miracles,
through the power of the
Spirit.”
I am indebted to Dr. Gordon

story of Heidi Baker, Iris
Ministries, a missionary to
Mozambique. Heidi and
her husband Rolland had
been missionaries in several
countries. They had a small
ministry and were struggling
in many areas including
Heidi’s health. Heidi went to
Toronto in 1997 where she
received an impartation that
forever changed her life and
many countries in Africa.
When Randy saw her at the

“Heidi, God wants to know,
do you want the nation of
Mozambique?” I didn’t try to
figure the word out; I just gave
it. Heidi answered with a strong
voice, “Yes!” Then I said, “God
is going to give you the nation

to see the dumb speak, the lame
walk, the blind see, and the dead

Immediately, she heard the
audible voice of God say to her,
“Good, I want you dead.”
After this she heard God speak
again in an internal audible
voice, “Hundreds of churches
and thousands of people.” Upon
hearing this Heidi began to
laugh. This was the laughter of
amazement and wonder at a
word from God that was hard to
believe could be possible. Then
Heidi asked the Lord, “How,
how can this be? Rolland and
I have started four churches
in seventeen years and it has
nearly killed us!”
After a while Heidi lost all
ability to move from her
neck down. She was like a
quadriplegic. She cried out,
“God, this is getting too weird,
even for me.” Again she heard
the Lord say, “What I am asking
you to do is impossible for you
to do by yourself.”... Heidi
remained helpless for extended
periods of time while at the

the greatest miracle was not
one of healing or provision, but
the birthing of a miraculous
church-planting movement that
now encompasses over 10,000

and submitted all the
necessary papers. It has
been a long and difficult
road for our workers
filled with confrontation
with militant Hindus and
corrupt police officials,
but we have finally been
granted custody of 10
girls. They will be arriving
any day at Karishma Girl’s
Home in Agra.
All these girls are the
children of martyrs. They
have been exposed to
Karishma Girls Home in Agra, Uttar Pradesh, India ready to
welcome 10 orphan girls from Orissa, India.

Orissa massacre in 2008.

as of now we do not have
the room. We are seriously
moving ahead with plans
to begin construction on
the second floor so we can
take in 12 more girls.
Our workers in India and
we are so honored that
the Lord has chosen us
to raise these precious

 Living for the Audience of One!

W
e need to live our
lives for the audience
of ONE. Christ-like
humility can really test
our heart motive for doing
things. Are we motivated in
doing things to be seen of
men or are we living our lives
for the audience of ONE?
There is coming a wave of the
Holy Spirit where those who
can really understand what
it is to live for the audience
of ONE, will be greatly used
of God.
Notice Jesus words in
Matthew 6: 1-4 “Take heed
that you do not do your
charitable deeds before men,
to be seen by them. Otherwise
you have no reward from your
Father in heaven.  …But when
you do a charitable deed, do not
let your left hand know what
your right hand is doing,  that
your charitable deed may be in
secret; and your Father who
sees in secret will Himself
reward you openly. Jesus
mentions the same concept
about prayer (vs 5-8) and
fasting (vs 16-18).”
Giving, prayer, fasting and
ministry are all good things.
But it comes down to one
thing what is the heart
motive behind doing these
things? Is it to be seen or
because you are living your
life for the audience of
ONE?  Your motive can make
all the difference whether it
is a dead religious work or

Jesus in our

nations.
Jesus said “If
anyone serves Me,
let him follow Me;
and where I am,
there My servant
will be also. If anyone serves
Me, him My Father will honor”
(John 12:26). What will
happen if we follow Him in
order to be where He is and
to do what He’s doing? This
is where many miss it. Many
follow Jesus and are doing
“good works.” They look
good to others. They appear
busy! God is not asking just
for good works. He desires
that we do His work, be
where He is, and do what
He is doing. There is a major
difference between looking
good while doing good works
and actually doing God’s
work. Many times pride will
cause us to do good, religious
works, in order to get noticed
by people, like the religious
leaders of Jesus day. However
these works have little impact
on eternity. We need to cease
from doing things just to be
seen by people.
One thing I have noticed over
the years in ministry is when
we do good things just to
be seen of men, many times
we can miss out on what the

Holy Spirit is wanting us to
do. It is in this place that
people become resistant to
the Holy Spirit. I have noticed
if we follow the Holy Spirit’s
leading, then He shows up
with great miracles, signs,
and wonders that take things
to a whole new level. This
does not happen if we are
doing good things just to be
seen by men.
Notice the final results, “…
Him My father will honor.”
The Father exalts, promotes,
and honors. He doesn’t do it
for those who are giving up
things for the sake of giving
up things or to look good
before others.
To sum it all up make
decisions based on the
audience of the ONE and
ONLY: JESUS CHRIST. Trust
in the LORD with all your
heart, And lean not on your
own understanding; In all
your ways acknowledge
Him, And He shall
direct your paths
(Proverbs 3:5-6).
The Lord Sends Bees And Defends
His Own In India
“Moreover the LORD your God will send the

hide themselves from you, are destroyed. You shall not
be terrified of them; for the LORD your God, the great
and awesome God, is among you. And the LORD your
God will drive out those nations before you little
