Department of Surgery performs NSV procedures (Non Scalpel Vasectomy) on


OPD basis in Minor OT, Room NO. 33, ground floor, OPD building. (Patients are
sent by Department of Family Welfare, Dr. RML Hospital)

Education and Training at Department of Surgery

The department has an elaborate programme for education and training of


Interns, Junior Residents, Senior Residents and Post Graduate Students.

Ward classes, Journal Club and Seminars are held regularly according to a
Teaching Programme prepared in advance.

Besides, the residents are trained while on the job in wards and operation
theatres.

Selection of Interns and Residents is through direct interviews held regularly.

Prospective candidates are advised to be on lookout for advertisement in major


newspapers and the website for information regarding vacancies, interview dates
and applications forms.

Post graduates are selected through a competitive examination conducted by the


University/ AIPGIME.

Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research attached to the


Hospital caters to the needs of large number of post graduate students.

This Institution is in the Zonal map of SCOPE and other PG Training courses.

Patient Care at Department of Surgery

The department of Surgery provides high standards of care for both outdoor and
indoor patients related to General and Minimal Access Surgery.

Emergency Services are provided round the clock for all kinds of Surgical
emergencies including road side accidents and polytrauma.

A new trauma center with facilities for emergency reception of patients, state of
the art Laboratory, Operation theatres for General Surgery, Orthopaedics,
Neurosurgery and 12 bedded intensive care unit has recently been added to the
existing facilities.

 OPD
There is a separate outdoor patient department block from where all the OPDs
function.
Surgery OPD is located on the ground floor of the OPD block and functions from
Room Nos. 38, 41, 43 & 44.
A minor O.T. is attached for minor procedures.
NSV (No scalpel vasectomies) are carried out here.
Registration timings are from morning 08.30 a.m. to 11.30 a.m.

 C.G.H.S. OPD – (exclusively for Central Govt. Health Scheme beneficiaries)


o Functions from Room No.98A on the first floor of the OPD Block.
o Registration timings are from morning 08.30 a.m. to 11.30 a.m.
o Patients seen here have to be referred from C.G.H.S. dispensaries.
o Separate OPD Days are allotted to dispensaries from a particular area in Delhi.
o CGHS patients of the rank of Deputy Secy. can attend by prior telephonic
appointment with the concerned doctor on the allotted day.
o CGHS Patients of the rank of Joint Secy. and above can attend direct without
being referred from their dispensary.
 Emergency
All emergency surgery patients have to report to the Casualty Medical Officer in
the Casualty.
After initial emergency treatment and completion of medico-legal formalities, if
any, patients are referred to the Surgical Emergency ward, 2nd floor, New ECS
building where further surgical management is carried out. Patients are kept
under observation or admitted and subjected to minor or major surgery in the
emergency operation theatre as required.
If required, patients are referred to other specialities.

 Referrals
Certain facilities are not available at the hospital. These include ERCP,
Radiotherapy for cancer patients, Radio-Iodine Thyroid scan, Parathyroid scan,
DTPA Renal Scan, certain Special Biochemical Investigations such as some
Hormonal Assays, Genetic Studies etc.
Patients requiring any of these are referred to other centres having these
facilities.

 Wards ( Indoor patients )


Routine general surgery patients are admitted in ward 16,17 & 18 situated on
2nd, 3rd and 4th floor respectively of Old Building.
Emergency surgery ward, 2nd floor, New ECS building patients requiring
admission for a longer period are admitted in ICS ( Intermediate Care Surgery)
ward on second floor of the emergency block.
Patients operated in the emergency O.T. are kept in post –op emergency ward
adjacent to ICS ward.

 Nursing Home
CGHS patients entitled for Nursing Home can avail of the well-equipped air-
conditioned private rooms facility.
Nursing Home application forms are available from the Nursing Home Office
and CGHS OPD. Rooms are allotted on the basis of availability and first come
first serve basis.

 Operation theatres
Separate operation theatres are there for minor and major Surgery. Minor
operation theatres are located in the OPD, Emergency Block & First floor
operation theatre. There are three well-equipped General Surgery operation
theatres for major routine surgery.
o Ground Floor operation theatre located in the Nursing Home Block
o First Floor operation theatre located on the first floor of the old building.
o IInd Floor operation theatre located on the IInd floor of the new building.

Emergency Surgery is carried out in the emergency operation theatre located


in the Emergency Block.

 Blood Bank
Blood Bank services are available round the clock.

 Supporting services
The hospital provides for supporting services such as C.S.S.D., Centralised
Oxygen and Nitrous Oxide supply and Laundry services.

Paraclinical Departments

 Pathology deptt.
It provides facilities for cytology, frozen section and histo-pathological
examination of surgical specimens.

 Microbiology deptt.
It provides facilities for routine, culture sensitivity and marker studies.

 Radiology Deptt.
It provides facilities for routine x-rays, special x-rays, contrast studies,
Ultrasound, NCCT, CECT and MRI.
Ultrasound and head C.T. services are available in the emergency also.

 Hospital Lab Services


Various biochemical routine and special tests of blood, urine etc. are done on
outine as well as emergency basis.
