nutrition, health, shelter, water and sanitation, agriculture, counter trafficking and livelihood
projects.

Job Title : Project Assistant (SMKH)

JOB SUMMARY

The position is based in Health program of Samaritan’s Purse, Hpa An office. The Project
Assistant (PA) is responsible to contribute achievement of the project objectives through
implementation of activities aimed at promotion positive behavior change of targeted mothers
in health and nutrition of targeted beneficiaries. He or she will report to Field Officers and
assist Project Coordinator (MCH) in their activities. The activities include trainings for leader
mothers, male communities and targeted beneficiaries, conducting supportive meeting to
mother groups, home visit or conducting follow-up session/actions after the training, and
participating in monitoring of implemented activities indicators and reporting of challenges
and progress of the project. This position may require intensive travel up to hard to reach
communities.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

1) Assist Field Officer in project planning


 Work in conjunction with the Field officer to develop detailed activity and
monitoring plans for executing field activities, including sharing challenges and/or
successful of the monitoring activities and monthly planning.
 Work closely together with partner staff at community level for project
implementation.
2) Project implementation (training and meeting):
 Assist in training preparation and logistic arrangement.

 Necessary to travel for joining training and meeting and translate into Sgaw Karen
if necessary.
 Conduct trainings to students, male communities and other beneficiaries as
needed
 Conduct follow up visit to targeted beneficiaries after the training sessions.
 Assist in meeting with village leaders, churches leaders and communities for
establishing of emergency referral system.
 Assist field officers in monitoring of the action plans of village referral committee.
3) Project implementation (Behavior change communication)
 Assist with the distribution of Information, Education and Communication (IEC)
materials.
 Assist with follow up supportive supervision of the utilizing of training materials
by leader mothers and targeted communities
 Work with community members to raise awareness of nutrition and maternal
health.

4) Provide necessary support on outreach activities done by health staff from Clinics or
coordinate with health staff or health committees for accessing of maternal health.
5) Program monitoring and reporting:
 Submit monthly reports to Field officer on the progress of project activities.
 Provide assistance on data entry and track and analysis of project activities.
 Assist in community assessment.

6) Finance:
Request proper cash advances and ensure these are spent appropriately and
according to donor requirements and/or activity budgets
 Collect clear and accurate receipts and create regular finance expense
reports (FERs)c for activities completed
7) Coordinate and build relationships with other relevant local and international NGOs.
Attend cluster coordination working group meetings if required.
8) Other duties as assigned.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

• Able to communicate in Burmese and Sgaw Karen; has translation and interpretation skills
• Ability to travel to field sites by boat, walk to implement outreach, follow up after the training.
• Experiences on using of Microsoft excel, power point.
• Strong willingness and passion to work in hard-to-reach communities or conflict-affected areas.
• Strong relational skills and financial management experience preferred
• Is willing to learn and be trained more in health development.
• Able to ride a motorcycle and has a license.

Education/Experience Needed

• Degree in Social Work, International Development, or Health related degree


• Experiences on financial management.
• Experiences on working with community development, health and nutrition component.

SKILLS REQUIREMENTS

 Agreement and compliance with the Samaritan’s Purse policies and commitment and
understanding of SP Mission Statement.
 Able to speak and write in Karen and Burmese; ability to speak in English advantageous
 Good level of computer literacy, including Microsoft Word, Internet, and email
 Willing to work in remote areas, lodging at project sites, motorbike driving license
