FILTER ELEMENTS
The principal function of the media filter is the filtration from impurities and organic material that is
contained in the feeding water. To do that we make water go through several layers of sand and
anthracite, it also eliminate some oxide that comes from the pipes because in it there is a deferrizer
compound. This oxide damages the membranes decreasing the its life.
NOTE: If there are oxide problems it is advised the installation of a deferrizer filter, because the sand
filter is designed for small quantities of oxide.
NOTE: When it is not possible to eliminate the oxide the pipe must be made of Stainless Steal, we
recommend an independent inlet of seawater.
NOTE: The small quantities of impurities that this filter could allow passing through, will be catch by the
micrometric filter.
Bottle fixed to the equipment structure. In it there are sand, anthracite, deferrizer material
and broken-stone.
Central conduit with efflux nozzle coupled to the conduit. This one is placed in the lower part
of the bottle.
Control Valve, it regulates the water flow through the filter, either during the service working
or in the washing process.
Programmer, with a 230 V CA transformer. This programmer controls the movement of the
Control Valve. It has a START switch to start the washing function and a led that will be
lighted until the washing process finish. At the control panel there is a small Thumb Switch, it
is connected with the programmer, pushing this switch the washing process starts.

AUTO-WASHING PROCESS
1. It will be done daily and it will take half an hour, this time is fixed in the programmer.
3. Close the valve that is placed between the exit of the media filter and the inlet of the
micrometric filters, to avoid pressure drops during the washing process.
4. The drainage valve of the media filter is placed in the control valve and it is connected to the
non-potable drinking water exit. In the drainage pipe it is placed a manual valve. Before start
the washing be sure that the valve is open.
5. In order to start the washing push the red thumb switch (SAND FILTER) in the control panel
or the START switch of the programmer.
NOTE: At the moment that the filter washing starts the pilot of the programmer will light and also the
one placed at the CONTROL PANEL. At the control panel scheme the pilot of NORMAL WORKING will turn
off and the pilot of WASHING will turn on.
a) Backwash: During this process the programmer will move its head and at the same time
the pilot of the control valve, and one pilot will be at the short part of the head and the
other at the long part of it. As a result the pilots 2 and 3 will be activated. For this reason
the pistons of the control valve will move hydraulically, making pass all the water through
the central part of the bottle. Once the water leaves the efflux nozzle it pass through
sand, anthracite and deferrizer material, taking away all the impurities. These impurities
will leave the bottle for one side of the control valve and will go directly to the drainage.
b) Stand-by: During this process the programmer will move both pilots at its longer part. As
a result the pilots 2 and 4 will be activated. For this reason the pistons of the control valve
will move hydraulically, making pass part of the water through the side inlet of the bottle,

after that, water passes through sand, anthracite and deferrizer material, taking away all
the impurities that could have been leaving after the backwash.
c) Washing: During this process the head of the programmer will move the pilots of the
control valve into the opposite position as the backwash. As a result the pilots 1 and 4 will
be activated. In this process will be taking away all the remaining impurities because in
this wash is used more water flow than in the previous one.
NOTE: During the last phase, the programmer automatically will place the pilots into their original
position (1 and 3). The control valve will come back to its normal service position, it will happen 30
minutes after have been started the washing process. The process will finish when the tally light at the
control panel is turned off. Once the process is finished it can be opened the valve placed at the exit of
the media filter. When the warning light of low feeding pressure (FAILURE LOW FEEDING PRESSURE) is
turned off it can be energized the high pressure pump.

The filtrating components which are found inside the filter bottle last depending on the flow and treated
water quality (quantity of impurities), as well as the corresponding diary cleanings.
Nevertheless, when the filter is obstructed, there will be a significant difference in pressure between the
pressure gauge installed in the filter inlet and the pressure gauge installed in the outlet (it is advisable
its installation), pressure has diminished considerably at the outlet due to the dirt of the filter.
To carry out the emptying of the filter components we must check if there is a emptying device, without
needing to disconnect or filter movement and the steps to follow are the next ones:
1. Unscrew the valve on the top of the filter. Turning it contrary to clockwise. Then take the valve
out.
2. Once the valve was removed, lie the bottle carefully on the floor and begin to empty all the media
inside. It is advisable to introduce a hose by the upper plug which will help us to empty the filter
(if it were necessary the hose would be used with pressure water).
3. With the help of a hose, we must carry out a washing of the filter walls, to avoid residues of the
wasted supplied water.
NOTE: The inner PVC tube including the bottom distributor nozzle will also removed if it is easy to pull
out. Otherwise, if it is hard tighten, keep it incide until the media is completely removed. At the end of
the emptying, the entire tube will be removed easer.

FILTER LOADING
Ask the spare material directly to PETER TABOADA, S.L. or to any authorized distributor with the aim of
confirming and guaranting the needed material, as well as the precise quality and quantity for every
filter.
The steps to follow to supply the filter are the next ones:
1. When the filter is clean, we can begin the filling process using the upper mouth (filling
plug) which remains opened.
NOTE: It is advisable to place and link a funnel in the upper mouth of the bottle (filling plug) to make
the introduction of the new filter supply easier.
a) Gravel.
b) Thick sand.
c) Big sand.
d) Deferrized component.
e) Antracite.
NOTE: The introduction order of the material in the filter is not necessary to be followed, because after
doing the supply we must do 2 or 3 filter cleanings to remove the sand impurities (dust, dirt, etc.). The
different layers of the filter stratify by densities and they all finish in its working position.
3. Once finished the filter supply we must remove the funnel (if we use it) and close the
upper mouth (filling plug) and the filter will be supplied and ready to work.

4. Before starting to work we need to clean the impurity supply and because of that we
must do 2 or 3 filter cleanings, in order to do that see the water that goes through the
drainage at the moment of doing the cleaning. When we can see that it is clean, the filter
is ready to work.

1 / Automatic by-pass
The automatic proportional by-pass accessory enhances the system with following
functions when fitted upstream of the water treatment system:
a) Supply of untreated water during regeneration cycle 4C.
b) Partial water delivery to supplement service if consumption is temporarily higher than
normal. Example: A temporary increase of the water consumption creates a pressure E
drop after the softener. This pressure drop causes the automatic by-pass valve to open N
partially to suppress the increased consumption. G
c) Adjustment of the residual hardness of treated water in accordance with regulations
by means of a mixing device. The mixing device is set when the system goes into L
service. I
d) Disconnection of the valve or the entire water treatment system without causing a S
break in the supply of water. H

3 / Chlorinator
The chlorinator is able to carry out automatic sterilisation of the resin during regeneration. To
perform this function, the valve must naturally be equipped with a controller able to manage
the SIATA range of chlorinators. This controller feeds electrically the electrolytic cell during
the regeneration cycle to produce an appropriate quantity of chlorine by electrolysis of the
brine, which is necessary for the sterilisation of the resins.
