“An employee’s motivation is a direct result of the sum of interactions with his or her
manager.”
Motivation consists of the three interaction and interdependent elements of needs, drives and
goals. NEEDS: These are the deficient, and create whenever there is a physiological or psychological
imbalance. DRIVE OR MOTIVES: These are set to alleviate needs. These are action oriented and
provide an energizing thrust toward goal accomplishment. They are the very heart of the motivation
process. GOAL: Goals are anything which will alleviate a need and reduce a drive.

Importance of Employee Motivation

Motivated employees can lead to increased productivity and allow an organisation to achieve
higher levels of output. Imagine having an employee who is not excited at work. They will
probably use the time at their desk surfing the internet for personal pleasure or even looking
for another job. Here is a waste of your time and resources.
Motivating your employees is vital to any business. A motivated workforce means a highly
productive staff, all of which will help you achieve your business goals. And this should be
the primary objective of your organizational and business plan. Before you build a
motivational strategy, the first step you need to take is to understand what motivates your
employees. What drives them to their peak performance will better help you develop
programs that both motivate and retain the best employees for your business.
While the same thing will motivate not every employee, focusing on a list of critical
motivating programs can help. Your plan can include everything from monetary incentives,
rewards, and recognition, building programs that support work-life balance, to just creating a
fun, relaxed office environment. The opportunities are endless and the reward substantial.

Benefits of Motivated Employees

Employee motivation is highly essential for every company due to the benefits that it brings

to the company.

offering even better. Being highly focused on the product or service, motivated employees
will see areas for improvement and will be driven to work to enhance these.

working towards. These employees are less likely to miss work without good reason as they
feel that this could delay their progress.

Lower levels of staff turnover

Motivated employees are more likely to stay in their roles as they can see the effects of their
work and feel that there is an ongoing difference that they can make in the company. This can
lead to lower training and recruitment costs for the company as employee churn is reduced.

As we will all be familiar with, people talk about the things they enjoy, and more notably, the
things they don’t. Satisfied workers spread the word and in turn, give the firm a good
reputation as an employer. As a result, it becomes easier to recruit the leading talent
“Desire is the key to motivation, but it’s determination and commitment to an unrelenting
pursuit of your goal – a commitment to excellence – that will enable you to attain the success
you seek.”

for this the superiors or the managers make personal effort different from the daily control or
functions. It is not necessary that the efforts made by the managers will be unanimously
acceptable. It can also be exposed in this way there are many hurdles in implementing a
motivational system. They are following:
1. A Costly Efforts

How to Increase Employee Motivation
Communication
Employees also want to see the company that they are working for succeeding.
Many have excellent ideas, ranging from money saving to operational
improvements. Management must make an effort to take some time to ask and
listen to suggestions.
The easiest way to increase employee motivation is by having positive
communication at the workplace.
Value Individual Contributions
“Employees who believe that management is concerned about them as a whole
person – not just an employee – are more productive, more satisfied, more fulfilled.
Satisfied employees mean satisfied customers, which leads to profitability.”
Employees will take pride and be engaged in their work if they are aware how their
efforts create an impact the organisation; regardless of how big or small their
contributions are.
Positive Workplace Environment
The employees lack motivation because their workplace does not have a positive
work environment. To fix this, management could send out surveys and get
feedback from employees to solve the issues that they may face.
Management could also post a positive quote or picture by the copier, coffee
machine or somewhere else that is visible and that receives high foot traffic so that
others can see.
Offer Opportunities For Advancement
Your employees are more motivated when they know they’re working towards
something. If they think there’s no opportunity for advancement, they don’t have
much to work for. Nobody wants to work a dead-end job. Motivate your employees
by offering training that gives them the skills they need to climb their career ladder.
Grooming young employees to move on to better opportunities is valuable to you as
well because it enables you to build your company’s reputation as a great place to
work.
Provide Incentives
Incentives are always motivation boosters — and they don’t have to be expensive.
You can offer incentives like an extra paid day off, gift cards, tickets to the movies,
or other low-cost ways to show your appreciation. Of course, cash rewards are
always good incentives as well.
Empower Them
Give your employees more of a say in how they do their job. Ask for their input and
get suggestions on how they can improve their performance. Most employees have
ideas about how they can be more efficient, but they may not share them with you
unless you specifically ask them. Use regular employee reviews to discuss these
improvements, but don’t just ask. You should also give them the authority to make
their own decisions, such as providing service for a client up to a certain point
without needing to get prior approval. If you want to empower and motivate your
employees, you need to take their advice and implement it.
